Radar detector question

I just got another ticket today, so I think it's time for a radar detector, but I have a few questions first. I am looking at the Escort Passport 8500 and I was wondering if I can mount it up over the rearview mirror, or if that would interfere with its range. I want it to be as stealth as possible. Also I was wondering how hard it is to hardwire it. thanks

I have info on hardwiring a Bell985 on my webpage. The Escort install may be similar. Valentine-1 is awesome but oversensitive at times, while the Bell & Escort are a sure tie for second best. But then again you can go even more high-end & spend over $1000

hmm... i've been playing around w/ positions, and i get most detection when the radar detector is in the smack middle (middle vertically and horizontally) of the front windshield. The thing is, our backseats are pretty high, and for me, the stock spoiler gets in the way if it's a little lower. The laser detection is rear so I gotta put it right in the middle of the windhsield so it can get a good view.

either way people are gonna see it. I don't know about other detectors but the detector I have (cobra... not fancy at all, $140) came w/ a mount where the detector easily slides off (detaches)... that's what I do because I put up a sunshade everytime I park. Shouldn't be that much of a problem.
