In dash monitor loosen it's excitement

This is a purchase that was made with great expectations. A dash mounted monitor with the appropriate source, and those 2 hour rides to the in-laws don't seem so bad anymore. The interior has been redefined to new heights of luxury and accommodation. Compliments from new passengers are frequent, at times even pretty dam colorful.....but when all the excitement has died down, all your pals have peeped the new mod, and you've tallied how many times the unit is of actual "use" then what? I pondered this before the purchase, and a month or so after installation, Im dwell'n on it again......Out of a normal week the monitor/source gets action perhaps 1 day out of the week, IF THAT. I sorta miss the lighting from my factory Square HU. Now the car cabin seems so bare and dark at night. Now don't get me wrong, the monitor with a good source is definitely a worthwhile investment for the right type of person........but that type of person probably goes out a lot more than I do these days, or maybe uses the max as a Show Car for competition, and probably has people who'd luv to drive while he and the rest of his pals play Tekken, or watch a movie. Initially I bypassed all of these points with thoughts of adding to the value of the max for a By Owner sell in my city and move up to a 99 Q......despite plenty of good offers, plans to sell have loss priority with me and I wanna keep Maxeeen!!! Now, the monitor doesn't hold as much "Pa zAz" anymore. Install was a BIOTCH, but secretly I admit that I liked the challenge and opportunity to do something unique with Maxeen. But install is over, the challenge toppled and Im thinking of selling or perhaps making a trade. THINKING about it......but Only time will tell. See itz habit like this, that make the car a True Hobby for me.

Excuse me for my ranting, but how many times do you other Monitor owners get to actually USE the set up in an average week? Don't ya kinda miss the the old square block with buttons? Call me crazy, but I THINK I do.

Oh my God.... this man is in the advanced stages of PMED (Post-Mod Enthusiasm Decline). Nurse, for the love of God, get this man a new mod to install. We haven't much time!

Thus far, all of the Mods I've placed on my car, I have kept. The monitor/radio/source was yet another addition to my current mods, but since I don't use it as often as the others, it's loosing my favor quickly. All the other mods are things I get to make use of or admire on virtually a daily basis. Not so with the monitor. And although you probably can't tell by my sig, I think the money would have been better spent on some HID's.....for me at least.

Speedcrazie, I haven't decided on what Im going to do with it just yet. I think it only fair (to my pocket) that I at least keep the mod installed for around two months before I make a final decision. When that happens, you'll see my post in the For Sales Forums IF I decide to part with it.

Till then, Anybody else with the Monitor Set up, use it more frequently than I? I already know about you erty67, but if your that close to a beach, those sort of opportunities are always likely.

Do you mean COMputer? If so, how would a computer change things? Im the driver of my car 98% of the time. The other 2% are few and far in between. How would having a computer help? If you really meant to write CARputer, then.....what is a carputer?

carputer is a computer for your car...

adding one is cheaper then having an all in 1 in dash player, plus, it plays Divx, Xvid, Mp3s, Svcd, Vcd, DVD+ and - R, GPS, Music Videos.

for me its a chance to have different things showing while im playing mp3s (using winamps AVS plugins) and not having to have 200 cds in my car

So you mean actual computer in the car. What type of inverter are you running to power up a computer? Where do you place the CPU? What happens when you want to change DVD's or something?

I think if I got to the point of a whole month with no use, I'd probably just go ahead and sell the monitor. The way things are going though, that may very well be the case. The only "if that" usage I get out of the unit is on the way to locations that take less than 15 minutes to get to, like, the mall, Walmart, the park, the club...ect. Thats No time to watch a movie, No time to really get into a game, and the majority of the time, Im driving, so it's like wtf? The only real reason I'd see in holding on to it is to make use of the aftermarket HU, but even then, Im not a Huge sound system fan, so I'd be fine with the Factory HU anyway. STILL, I'll try and give it another month or so, and see whats up.

I don't consider any mod that didn't damage my ride "a bad experience". I Love the Monitor/radio/PS/DVD set up......just don't think I use it enough to justify keeping it.

Well if there was any mod that I'd rather be "stuck with" it would definitely be an operable 7" monitor

Yea, but "I" have the luxury of actually being able to remove it. For the most part, it seems that You don't. That said, if I had to have Some sort of mod Stuck to my car, the monitor wouldn't be a big deal at all. Thats all Im saying.

And for the record everyone, I STILL have yet to decide on whether or not "I want" my monitor.

Wow.... I think you are loosing it man. I hated that big *** bose system in my car. Now I have a Pioneer DVD Head unit. Even if i dont have a movie in the cd tracks come on the screen so i dont have to look down to see track its on. It comes in handy. I put mine on a switch so I can just flick it on and off when needed. I dont ride with it on at night so much because of the attention it brings because of the brightness. If I'm on the highway however, its on the whole time. Its a great screen. I say mine gets used on average 3 times M-Th and alot during the weekends especially when I'm on travel.

I think you do need a new mod! Something else to take your attention for awhile. I think you will miss your screen when replace it
