60 Watt RMS speakers w/ 22 Watt RMS deck
60 Watt RMS speakers w/ 22 Watt RMS deck
My deck in my car is 22 Watt RMS, and I am now looking to get new speakers. If the speakers are 60 Watt RMS, will there be a problem? I want to know if that will affect sound quality? of if there is j/ an electrical problem because the speakers are 60 while the deck is 20? Also, I am not planning on getting an amp in the future.
Thanks alot

If the speakers are sensitive (>90dB), chances are you can play music reasonably loud with 22W RMS. However, once you exceed that, the sound will deteriorate as you get more clipping and you risk damaging your speakers. Basically it all boils down to how loud you play your tunes. I would argue that up to the 22W RMS limit of your HU, there is no difference in sound quality between your HU and aftermarket. It is only when you exceed the capabilities of your HU does sound turn sour and people then remark how the HU can't produce "clean" watts.
It also helps to get a subwoofer to offload the bass content to the subs. Many HU's now have high/low pass filtering and sub control. That would be ideal. I'm running my component speakers off my HU and have a subwoofer off a mono amp and can play music as loud as I could ever want.
