03 upgrade to bose

I have an 03 SE with the standard AM/FM/CD/Cass. I want to get better sound without losing the steering wheel mounted controls. Was wondering what I need to make it a bose system (Amp, sub, etc), if this change would be worthwile, and how hard it would be to complete.
Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Based on what I've seen floating around this site, it won't be an easy upgrade. Even if it were easy, I seriously wouldn't mess with Bose. Bose was good 15 years ago, but they're just selling a name, not a good product.

I am in the process of replacing EVERYTHING Bose in my 03 GLE because I hate the stereo so much. I'm not someone who is building a monster sound system, but I have a 1.5 hour commute (each way) and I want a stereo that sounds nice and isn't going to ruin my ears and/or fatigue me.

There are a lot of good deals on car audio equipment online. No kidding, you can save 50-60% off retail prices, which makes getting something other than Bose very attractive.

Good luck.
