When you crack your windows open, almost any system will get louder. Take that into consideration.

Maybe your ears are just adjusting to the vloume? I find that if I an driving for over 1/2 hour I'll start with the vloume at 16-18 and end up with it at 23-24 and it sounds the same. We are slowly destroying our ear drums.

That is definately it. When I come home evenings I turn the volume down to 14 or so (from 20~22), so I don't get blasted when I get in the car next. Well, in the morning I get in, start the car, and get blasted anyways, lol. Then I turn it down to 8. You definately get used to it and it seams not as loud. Esp. if you drive a lot.

this is just a guess, but it might be louder in the morning because the air is colder, which means it's denser. don't know how different air density will affect the behavior of sound waves but i think it has to do with something it.
