New Amp.....now headlights dim

I just installed an MMATS D200HC on my Brahma B12. Everything is working awesome except now my headlights are really dimming when the bass hits. When I installed it I also upgraded to 1/0 Gauge power and ground wire and battery ground. I currently have a 1F cap and a stock battery. What would the first step here be. Upgrading the battery to an Optima Yellow top or adding more capacitance? BTW are Battcaps all they claim to be?

Sounds like that 3 year old battery needs some help...I would probably say the system is within the range of most stock electrical systems, but it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the power wires from the Alternator and starter to help with the additional current needed. And batcaps do a heck of a job.

either new battey or you need a cap (capacitor)

Caps do a good job...especially when you have the car off and just listening to music

Battery, Wires to Alt. and starter, and maybe even a bigger alt if you can find one. And yes, Battcaps work. My friend has 4 and they work awesome.

I will go ahead and upgrade the power wire from the batt to the alternator, no problem there. Why would I need to upgrade the power wire to the starter motor? Also what is the model number of the Optima Yellow top batt. for a 5th. Gen? Is it the same as the 4th. Gen, 'cause they don't have a listing for it in their catalog.

how are ur gain levels set on the amp? is everything all the way up? consider playing with it a little bit and see if it helps, also, what RMS power is the amp putting out and what RMS power can the sub handle?

Go to my homepage. I have three amps and no caps but when I changed my stock battery to a optima yellow top d34/74 my lights stop dimming and the sq was improved. The battery I have should work with 5th generation also. My 2 cents is that caps are over rated. I would upgrade to an Optima right off the bat.
peace

Caps do not do anything different with the car on or off, they store a charge for quick musical peaks which needs extra power. A cap WILL NOT HELP with your electrical system, it may help with the lights dimming but it is not to be confused by saying it will help your electrical system.

Since you already have 1/0 wires you should probably look into changing your battery if you have not done so. If you still have the problem you might want to look into upgrading your alternator. Upgrading your alternator is a little pricy but if you play your system "loud" most of the times it will benefit your cars electrical system.

the D34/78 optima is what i got and i prefer that to the others simply because of the dual post. i was able to keep the stock harness while adding my system wire. and yes, this is for a 5th gen.

I have a AudioControl line driver so my gains at the amps are set very low. The RMS of the amp is somewhere between 1400 and 1800 Watts depending on the input voltage. The sub can't handle that, but I'm really careful and would always rather have a bit more than not enough.

Yeah, I think that's my next upgrade. What are you using to hold the battery down, though.

that pic showed my setup..this should show what i'm holding it down with (pic below)
you can't use your stock 5th gen tie down...because it curves down and this battery sits low, the tread on the j-bolts don't far enough.

Ahhhh. So can you change to different J bolts or is it necessary to upgrade to the Stealin batt tie down. How much does Stillen want for one of those anyway?

i got them from Jerry Roman Nissan for $25 or $30 shipped. more for looks. if you notice, the stillen tie down is straight, whereas the nissan curves down, meaning if you simply got a bracket from any auto store that was straight and didn't curve down, then you'd still have tread...

hope this helps.

the fact that the amp is putting out more power than the sub can handle may be the issue here, the amp has no where to send the excess power so it takes some of ur voltage away from everything else to burn up the excess power, i bet if u had a diff sub in their the results might be differerent or i am way off
