Stock car audio Problem-weak reception

Does anyone else have this problem?? I remember my 3rd gen had a similar problem. The radio stations come in scratchy whereas in another car they are fine on the same drive.
Is it the Head unit or is it the Antenna?
I was thinking about getting a new one but wanted to see if anyone had any advice on how to get better reception.
TIA

What year Max the newer 5th Gen max has an internal antenna (glass mounted) this needs constant power, others are different.

I think those have the auto up/down antenna.
May be a stupid question but did you make sure you antenna is up when the radio is on?
If so it may just be your Head Unit's receiver is seeing it's last days.
