Question about audio setup
Question about audio setup
Ok, I have a couple of really detailed questions, but ones I would really appreciate help with.
First off, I have most of my system installed...it consists right now of a set of CL-6Xs (CDT Audio) in the front and Infinity Kappa 63.5i's in the rear. The speakers are powered right now by an Eclipse PA5422.
That said, my questions are:
1. Would it be better to have the 63.5i's in the front, SQ wise? (That's what I wanted to begin with, but the installer assumed otherwise)
2. If I was to add a sub to the system, which way would produce better sound, an Infinity Basslink or a ported box with a JL or Eclipse 12 inch sub running off of the PA5422 WITH the other 4 speakers?
I know this is a complicated, subjective questions, but I really need help, thx.

*bump*
Also, the installer told me that the 85W x 4 at 4 ohms listed for the amp wasn't realistic, and that the speakers probably only received 35-40 watts continuous.
I'll admit, I'm confused...any help would be appreciated.

Probably SQ wise have the Infinity's up front and the CDT Audio in the back. Use the PA5422 to run the interior speakers.
Sub is personal preference. A ported box will sound louder than the BassLink. If you get a sub, then you should probably get another amp for it. But that is just me. It all depends on you and what you want.
This is how I have my system set up right now.
HU is pushing the interior speakers (for now) and a JL 500/1 going to the (2) 12's in the trunk. Hope this helps.

Never heard the CDT speakers in person, so I wouldn't be able to answer that question. But I would keep the 4 channel amp on the int spkrs and buy another amp for the sub. As to what sub to get, it all depends on how much bass you want in the car. Personally, I would go w/ a 12 in a sealed box.

I've got 2 12's in a sealed box. I personally recommend sealed over ported also. And yes, pick up a seperate amp for the subs.
I would say keep the CDT up front. Infinity Kappas have no midbass, and their cone meterial is terrible for SQ. CDT is well proven to be some of the best out there. Keep it the way it is.
Definately get another amp for the sub.
For SQ go sealed
For less SQ but more ambient bass, and SPL, go ported.

Out of those two speakers the CDTs have much more mid-bass and simply are better quality the Infinity. keep it the way it is.
Question:
if you are getting a sub, why did you get the rear speakers ? With the sub pounding you will not be able to hear them. Should have saved up and got a comp set for the front. MHO.
