Looking 4 Good Remote Starter/Alarm...

I've been window shopping around on remote start alarm systems for my 2k1 max. I'm looking at getting either the Prestige(Audiovox), the DEI(use to be clifford, but got bought out), Auto Page, or Viper. I know that which ever one I get that they would have to have the extra key in a box, that would be under the dash, so that the remote starter will work. I just don't want to get a BS alarm. Whatz ur thoughts?

I have the audiovox and although I love having a remote starter, I'm dissapointed with the Prestige. The buttons on the remote are soft and they don't click like the Nissan keyfobs, so it's hard to tell sometimes if the car responded or not.

I've had Clifford (DEI) on mine since I bought it...love the remote start and there is plenty of adjustability built in as well....very solid stuff...but some of the others are as well...check for similar features then decide based on price and the remotes...

i think the range in best conditions is like a quarter mile they said. its like two blocks in real world conditions. its the best range that i've seen on an alarm...hope that helps

Range is .25 miles. Their is one alarm out there that has a range of over 1.25 miles. It is compustar. And it is the only certified alarm for manuel starters.

Not one in my area, so I am going with the Viper 791.

BTW, the folks at compustar.org said that the new 791 that just came out, looks exactly like their product that came out in 1998. Not sure about that though!

My dealer wants $900 installed for the 791. here is what they are installing: Is it a good deal, not installing remote start.

1. Everything the alarm has +
2. Proximity Sensors
3. Dual sirens
4. Backup battery
5. small sirens from Shack (inside sirens)

Thoughts? BTW, this is for my 350Z, not my Maxima

I'm also looking for alarm system, if you want to get a group to go together, count me in. If we could get a group discount on alarm system + install that will be great. BTW, I'm in Downers Grove.

Well seems like we got some folks that want to go. I just got a dent in my hood and I had planned on getting that fixed first. But if we got a group, I may just say f**k it and get that alarm first. So about when are u trying to go? K Pazzo was talking about two weeks. Actually K Pazzo what exact date are u trying to go? And how much is D & E Alarms trying to charge for the Viper 791

I just noticed that the remote start function is designed for automatic transmission vehicle ONLY, so does that mean I can't get a alarm with Remote Start??

The Viper 791 is a nice alarm system/remote starter. I'm wondering why Don (aka Pearl96Max) hasn't posted anything here. He's da expert in alarm system/audio.

I'm down to get in on a group deal. I live in Evanston, IL. I just got back from tweeter in Wilmette and they have the Viper 791XV alarm everyone is talking about. It's around 290.00, but it cost around 330.00 for them to install, and that is very pricey. You will also lose one of your keys to by pass the chip for the remote start to work. So if there is another place that dose there kind of quality work let us know, because over 300.00 is out of the question.
maximo-SE found the cheapest price I think there is http://www.streamlinemotoring.com/in...il?v=1&pid=951

My man Raymond3414  that's the best price I've heard yet. Yo...I'm with you on that!!! A lot of places were telling me it was around $500-600. That sounds too good to be true. What all comes with it? I mean like other than the remote starter and security? I stay in the city. I can do it anytime after this week. What's the address of that Tweeter center? And phone number?

So Igor911 has done it, but I've ask many friends that tells me most shops are not willing to install remote starters on Manual transmission cars, becuase they have to set it up so precisely so the car won't get screw up..

For example, I do not want the remote start to work if the car is parked in 1st gear on a up hill. or parked in "Reverse" while down hill. Bascially just don't want it to work while its in any gear. Only when the gear is in neutral. Usually thats a lot of work for the person who is installing it.

If there's a shop that is willing to do this without giving me too much trouble or ask for a rediculous fee, I'm totally ready to have a Viper alarm install ASAP.

i recently put an audiopage alarm in my car.. it is the newest one according to my friend.. i bought it through him for like 300 bucks.. it works great without any problems.. the remote goes far as hell.. i could pretty much start it anywhere i am when i am at school.. i did it pretty much in front of my house without any problems... the one thing i hate about it and all remote starts in general is that there has to be a key in the car at all times because of the immobilizer system.. oooo.. its gonna be great when winter comes around..

if you are in the chicagoland area and you want it done.. pm or e-mail me..

Can't aftermarket alarm be setup so that it can bypass the immobilizer? I mean I wouldn't want to leave a key in the car at all times, just so i can remote start my car.

You can, but then you have to find the wire to short the circuit and then put everything else back into place. Things can be very messy, esp when you find that your window won't roll up/down or if your headlights doesnt work!

I have the DEI remote starter and it works great with two clicks of my unlock button on my OEM remote. It DOES NOT reach a 1/2 mile!! Nor does it reach a 1/4 mile. I paced it off and got about 175 paces max. I estimate that to be about 525 ft. or less than 1/8 of a mile. I'm still happy with it though. I purchased it and had it installed for about $200 in Atlanta, and that was not with a hook up or anything. They do have to take the black ring around your ignition out to use with the chip in your key, so you'll have to use the valet to put in the ignition. It's definitely one of my favorite mods and I expect it to be even more useful since it's already 29 degrees out here.

The Compustar has a 6000' (almost 1.25 mile) range!!! Plus the security features aren't half bad at all... how would this compare to the Viper?

Now that I've had my remote starter for a few months I have not had a situation where I wished my remote starter worked at over a mile away. You only really need it to work coming out of a building such as your house, work, school, mall, etc. How often do you have to park over a mile away from a building that you're going into? But I guess it'll be cool just to say that you can start your car from a mile away. How much do those things run anyway?

You are completely correct in that you will never park over a mile away from your car, so the 1.25 mile range is not necessary. However you forget that when they measure the range at 1.25 miles, they are doing it on a flat test field with no interference. Buildings, walls, metal barriers, etc will greatly reduce the range. So the greater straight line range you have, the greater range you will have through barriers (which will be greatly deminished from the claimed 1.25 mile range).

That is why longer range is important. As for cost, they run for about $230 - $250 on ebay, at most. But I don't know anything more about it like quality and features. I am hoping someone here can answer those questions.

I have owned a Clifford Solaris (G4) in the past and that was good, however I wasn't overly happy with the range (they claim 1/4 mile, but of course that is deminished with what I said above).

Read up on the compustar site about this new one... uses some new technology to achieve this greater range and more efficiently too. But I'd like to read a real world review on it. http://www.compustar.org/products/2WSS.html

Damn, that thing does everything but drive the car! Looks pretty cool with the LCD on the remote. I don't think $250 is a bad price for that, as long as you can keep the installation price to under $100.
