Who has had their Bose system go bad? Report here

Well, from what I have read a lot of people have had the cd err problem with their bose headunits. I am wondering if you got a new bose unit or replaced it with aftermarket components. I just bought a 97' SE and I get the cd err message and my cd player does not work but my radio still does. Anyways, I plan to buy a new deck and speakers. Could I put together a system for $400 that will be better than the bose? It needs to include front and rear speakers, wiring, deck, etc.

I have a 2001 Auto SE with BOSE, and I haven't had any problems with the CD mechanisms. The only problem I have is that when I crank it up really loud, the bass rattles the back speaker/sub and I cannot get it to stop, despite many efforts. I'm about to fix this via 2 12" Audiobahn subs in a custom bandpass box Too bad I need an amp before I can use it

If you can come up with a system for under 400 installed that's better than the BOSE, you are the car audio god.

um guys....there are really good systems out there for cheap. You just have to do the work yourself. I recommend going to cruchfield and configuring a system there then buying the parts off of ebay.

I have polk audio MM6 component system in my car for all 4 speakers and it sound a hell of a lot better than the bose ever did. Of course the speakers alone will cost you 400 but you dont have to get what i have. I also have 2 mm12's each in a separate box and a custom amp rack with 2 alpine 1 channnel 1000w amps. As far as a head unit i have the alpine IVA-xxxx or something like that it's a screen and cd player that only puts out 45 W X 4 but that's fixed by a 4X100W amp that polk has as well. I turn heads with the way my system both sounds and the way it looks. Oh and a little word of advice do your homework and DONT GO CHEAP.
