4th gen: anyone w/ aftermarket HU + bose components?

ugh, the forums are screwed up.

Basically, to cut this short for the 3rd time...

I am quite satisfied with the Bose system, but my bose cd player died. It just displays "CD ERR". I'd like to change just the headunit with an aftermarket (preferably Pioneer) that supports mp3/cd.

From what I know, I'll need:

1.) aftermarket HU
2.) some sort of bose adapter

that's all? I was wondering with those who have a 4th gen and made the swap... any problems with your HU and bose speakers? I understand that the bose speakers die when distortion occurs. Please help me out on this... I will do the install myself and put it in the slot where the cubby is so I can hopefully jump in on the next redmax lcd screen deal. THANKs.

Maybe it's a Kenwood thing. I replaced the headunit first and ran them with my Bose speakers before I completely finished my project with speakers/amp. I ran it for like 6 months with no problems.

Yup, all I bought were the harnesses to attach my Kenwood to the factory harness.

Is there any chance of damaging the aftermarket headunit?

I had it like that for 6 months before I sold it. I didn't get an email from the buyer complaining either.
