Cabin vs. Sub impedence

I have a US Amps 5600X. 5 channel amp. 75 x 4 in the cabin and 200 for the sub. This is at 4 ohms. Problem is that I have an 8 ohm sub. Will the different ohms have an effect on the levels of the sub versus the cabin?

The amp does not list power for 8 ohms...only 4 and 2.

When using a speaker with Higher impedance than the amplifier, the amplifier runs much cooler and puts out less power.

8 ohm sub should not burn out your amp. The sub will not sound loud. (something i learned in my eletronics class, if you had a 8ohm amp and a 4 ohm sub that would damege it) There is a way to lower the impedence of an 8ohm sub to 4ohm, not sure how to wire that....check the web.

This sub is a 8ohm Single Voice Coil ? If it is then you will not be using your amp to your full potential. I think you will only draw about 50Watts from your amp with that 8ohm load.

If it is the 8ohm Dual Voice Coil sub.. the you need to wire it in parallel to achieve the 4ohm load you want.

But if anything you are safe for runing that amp and sub.. but you will not be using either the way they were meant to be used.

Power into 8 ohms will be about half of the power at 4 ohms. What is the specific sub you plan to use? It does not sound like a car sub.

I haven't heard of an 8 ohm sub since the Punch Classic.

problem solved...

It is an Image Dynamics ID12 sub. New old stock. Got it on Ebay. The auction said it was a 4 ohm single coil sub, but when I got it, the carton and speaker said 8 ohm single coil. I confirmed the 8 ohm value with a tester.

I contacted the seller and he is sending a 4 ohm sub and I'll return the 8 ohm.

Thanks for the replys, everyone. I was surprized when it was an 8 ohm...I too, didn't think anyone made those and figured that at 8 ohms, the amp would be lucky to put out 100 watts.
