Two ID Max's i know of that blew because something touched the cone..
Mine:
first time i had some groceries in the trunk (yeah you try telling yoru woman no) and it touched the speaker.. luckly i pulled over and by 10 mins it came back on..
the second time i didn't bother and it blew my ID Max D4 v2
same thing happend to my cousin's ID Max also.
just letting you guys know...
well just like the rest of my car. when something blows... time to replace it with more
inspite of my luck with ID Max.. i am going to buy (2) 12" ID Max D4 v3's

I would be worried with some of these high excursion speakers coming into contact with the grille...unless they make grilles designed for these really long throw subs.

My bad, I meant the surround...though I could see something like an ED sub slapping cone with a grille.
