After properly hooking up my bazooka, I've noticed that my stock speakers just aren't cutting it anymore.

I'm not a big audiophile so I'm not looking to go all out crazy.

When I order my headunit from Crutchfield, I got some free (discontinued) 6 1/2 speakers. I'm gonna put those up front. And I was looking at the Kenwood KFC-1738C on Crutchfield. (They're so new, Kenwood doesn't even have them listed on their website yet! )

Anyway... I'm looking for speakers for the rear deck. Preferably a 3-way speaker cause I'm just not that big into sound systems to install tweeters. And something that would fit right into the rear deck. And it would most likely be under $100. I'm not looking for top-end stuff.

So, anybody have any comments on the Kenwoods or could suggest another speaker?

Thanks.

I've always been fond of Pioneer's TS-A series for "cheap" speakers.
I bought a set of TS-A1660 coaxes for $60 about 7 years ago.. I ran them with everything from stock power to 100w RMS on an amp that liked to clip.. they took alllll the abuse I could throw at them.
They're still riding around in the back of my sister's Honda today.

sound quality was good for a set of cheapo speakers- I even saw a few competitiors use them for rear-fill in their cars a while back. not bad, eh?

Other stuff I'd recommend are some of Rockford's mid-grade stuff. I think HPC-1604 or something were the ones I build pods for in ryan fobart's 93SE. they sounded pretty good also.. he paid about $100 for them.

I don't have any recent experience with much else in your price range, so I can't say anything about the kenwood.
hope that helps.

I think that kenwood makes great mid speakers..at least I've never heard or had any problens with them....I had some 6.5 three way custom fitted in the back deck....sounds great.

In my opinion 3 way coaxial speakers are a marketing curse, first started by Jensen and then copied by many manufacturers. For the same money instead choose a simpler designed 2 way coaxial. The reason is that small 2" midrange is basically just a low range tweeter and is a waste. A simpler 2 way system of the same price allows the speaker to have a better tweeter and a better midbass woofer as well as a better crossover arrangement between the two. If you are concerned about sound quality go for a 2 way setup over a 3 way.....

Rant over....
