dont underpower the 12w6, you want to get full potential out of that sub. get jl amp to go with it.

thats fine. Make sure you have a custom built box for the W6 and NOT a prefab.

I have 1 and I love it. Custom built is meaning built by a stereo shop or yourself. A prefab box would be like a subxone. If you are going to buy a prefab go for the for ones the JL builds. They use 3/4 mdf and you know it is sealed good. Check my page, I built one for mine but I am getting ready to redo it. Oh yeah, I use a 500/1 to push mine

nice. i can get a custom box for my new subs im getting for a little over$100. but a subzone 1cuft per sub (2 10's) for $79 shipped. plus they are made out of 3/4 mdf. so i think ill go with that and save some $$$.

i actually went to bring the specs for the sub to my local dealer to have a box built and they took one look at the sheet and told my a prefab box would be fine and save me money (they actually insisted)

they are taking you for a ride

custom made boxes will outperform prefab boxes.

the subzone box for the w7 is 1" mdf, but it's huge. I have to say it's a pretty solid box, but a custom built ported box will sound louder.

My local stereo shop would tell you the same thing for the same reason, the only problem is they aren't telling you the real reason. They don't make enough profit on building sub boxes b/c it takes too much of their time. They make enough profit selling you a prefab and they didn't have to spend any time. there is not a lot of money in it for them in custom work b/c of the man hours and cost of materials.
On the other hand, there are plenty of other stereo shops out there that would gladly build you a custom box so shop around.
To find your answer maybe you should think about the following:

1) What kind of box do you really want?
If the answer is it doesn't really matter and you don't want to stray too much from the standard box then maybe a prefab is for you.
2) Do you have the skills, tools and/or time to build a box your self?
If the answer is no then maybe a prefab is for you. They are really not that hard build btw

But if you must get a prefab please go with one of boxes that JL designs/builds it's a good box but any time you mass produce something you cut cornes to cut costs. Good luck on your decision.

I have one 12w6 and I love it. Its in a sealed 1.2 cubic feet 3/4" MDF box running about 200 watts RMS (Hifonics). The subs are awesome. Just don't blast them when they are new. They have a break in period and will actually sound better when they are broken in.

nice setup, but you are underpowering your sub a bit.

I just purchased a w6v2 and went to my local shop to discuss a custom box and he was trying to persuade me to go ported. I was under the impression that jl subs are better with sealed. Any suggestions?

Guys as long as the prefab box is using atleast 3/4MDF, and is sealed tight, AND is the correct airspace. There is NO problem with a PreFab that has correct specs.

U r correct, I assumed he had V2's but when I went back and read his thread that was a bad assumption. See what happens when you assume
