Installed aftermarket HU and having some issues now...
I installed a Kenwood KDC-519 today. It was in my old car, and I didn't have any issues at all. Now I am having two problems.
1) Power cuts out and comes right back on. Usually this is because of a grounded out speaker or something similar, but it cuts out even at minimum volume.
2) Dash lights are dim, even with dimmer all the way up. I used a Metra harness and I know it's wired properly, but I did hook up the orange/white dimmer wire off of the deck to the orange wire in the harness. Could this be the problem? I think they are both positive dimmer. The orange/black is the negative dimmer, but I capped that lead off and didn't hook it up to anything.
Any ideas? Tomorrow I'm going to cut the dimmer wire - I'm pretty sure that will fix my dash lights, but why would it be cutting out?

So... it turns out that my alternator just went out, and it was a coincidence that it happened right when I put my deck in. Tonight when I was driving home from work, my lights were REALLY dim, and all of a sudden all of the dummy lights lit up on the dash like a christmas tree, and my car starting sputtering - then my passport 8500 starting going crazy and the display read "low voltage". At the next stop light she died. So I called roadside assistance and they towed me home. Looks like I'll be spending new years day replacing my alternator.
