Adding an equalizer to improve sound

Hello,

I just finished setting up a new system with a 2 channel amp driving components, basslink and rear speakers driven from HU. I am not too thrilled with the few adjustments I have available via both the HU, Amp and component crossovers and I was wondering if anyone had added a good old equalizer to the system. I have looked at something like this http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...&productId=457

It looks like it would allow me to play the music anyway I want plus add some nice graphics to an otherwise boring HU.

Has anyone had any luck with equalizers?
I am using the scotsche kit. Would this be something that fits on the bottom pocket?
I am not sure that I know how to connect this thing. The manual shows a pair of RCA wires from the HU to the EQ. I have my components powered from the amp and my rears from the HU plus the basslink input comes from the sub output of the HU. How would I connect something like this to be able to control front, rear and basslink?

Thanks,

Mike

EQs are a great way of tweaking a system. But they shouldn't be used to correct any major design/installation flaws. All things equal, it is usually possible to fix most problems by installation alone, and THEN do some finishing touches with the EQ.

I'm not saying this is your specific case, because you didn't go into detail about what it was that you wanted more control over and why. Just my .02.

I'm not the most experienced person with installing EQs, but IF it has just one set of RCA inputs/outputs, then in your case all you will be able to control is your front speakers. I could be wrong...in which case someone will correct me.

Put the EQ in before the cross over and you can control the FR of the whole system. For serious tweeking get a pair of 1/3 octave EQs and a measurement setup. Then make subtle tweeks to make it sound better to your ear. If you just want a bit more adjustability than the tone controls on the HU try something like a Audiocontrol 4.1

Go AudioControl.
