blown shiva = new sub time

well, as i thought it would happen eventually, i blew 1 of my 2 shivas b/c i overpowered them (i think at least)...when i pulled the sub, the spider had separated almost completely from the cone, and who knows what other damage occurred b/c the speaker has 2 b forced in and out...

at any rate, i now want to either buy 1 or two subs to replace what i currently have. my budget would like to buy another shiva, but although it was loud, i want louder...i now come to this wonderful board for suggestions once again

heres my current setup/options:

memphis 1500d amp 750w @4ohm or 1500w @2ohm
1 have 2 separate 2 cube boxes that housed the shivas and i ran a 2 ohm load

i figure i can either buy 2 new subs, or just 1 and save the trunk space depending on my budget...hopefully i can get $75 or so for the other shiva if i decide 2 get rid of it so here's what im lookin for:

12" sub w/ 750w+ power handling capability that will perform well in a 2 cube sealed box on a budget of hopefully not over $300 per sub...

i listen to rock/alternative/techno as well, but sumtimes i do just want to belt out the low stuff

thanx 4 ne input as usual

I'm driving a Brahma with a MMATS D200HC. So far no problems and it plays so loud and clean it is unbelievable. Couldn't even imagine having two of them in the trunk.

If you are planning to buy new look into the new Koda series subs from Adire. They have not been released yet and it could be a few months. They are reported to be between the brahma and shiva for performance, spl and price.

You did quite well sending those Shiva's about 2 times their rated power. Sounds like you blew them thermally as welll as mechanically. I guess you should be congratualated.

You may want to go ported, tuned a bit low, 28-32 hz. And use a subsonic filter to save the subs below the tuning freq. You won't get the full SPL benefit tuning that low but you will maintain a good bit of the SQ.

might look into that as it will b a while b/f i come up w/ the sub $$$....i thought shivas were rated 675watts??? i blew the one sub when i had in a bass cd (not the best idea, but oh well) when it hit a low note my bass cut out and i figured it was 2 much 4 the suspension...guess it doesnt matter now....

Notice they didn't list RMS power anywhere. Only peak power, 650 watts. Not all voice coils are ceated the same but the majority of 2 inch coils aren't rated to more than about 300 watts RMS.

Program material and sub enclosure dramatically affect power handling.

I think I am the only male on the planet to live this long and not blow a sub, err, that one doesn't count. Okay disregard the last statement. But I have a nearly perfect record. That should count for something?

I have more than enough bass for a house with one of my subs. But I have more than one. The exact number and price I paid is top secret.
