4th gen BOSE w/subs

Quote from the 4th gen faq

2) I'm happy with the Bose system, but just want to add a sub. Is this possible?
Yes, you have to make sure you have a sub amp (or converter) that can take speaker level inputs. Tap the amp into the rear speakers between the speaker and the amp. However, once again you'll be getting the "after Equalization" sound, so the signal will not be accurate.
It says it is not accurate, how bad is it? can you even tell?
Also I have heard of using a pac converter and going in to HU. Withcht is better?
I am contemplating just bringing it in and having them do it, but don't want to get ripped off.
I have never done any car sterio installs how hard is it?

I have 2 Orion Cobalt 12's installed with a 300X1 bridged 2 channel RF amp. I dont think i have had the equalization after affect problem, but the subs pound pretty well, although i now want alot more boom....
The install was done by my local futureshop for $60 CAD and for that price they did an awesome and very clean job. My only problem is that the amp is a little too powerful for the subs, and i am getting minor distortion at high volumes. Also the stock bose speakers suck.....they add to the distortion more than anything.
Id say if you want some decent bass get some solid subs, like JL 12W seris. And get a good amp. You can always upgrade the deck yourself afterwards since the wiring is all there. Goodluck

I used one of those PAC adapters when i first put subs in. I thought it worked fine but I am by no means an audio expert. The adapter connected to the wires going to the rear speakers and converted the signal to RCA jacks. Since then I have gotten a new headunit so I don't have to deal with the PAC anymore.
