How the #$%@ do you wire the PAC SWI-X

Alright, I'm about to say f*ck it to steering wheel controls as I am getting nothing more than the runaround.

I am trying to install the PAC SWI-X following these instructions, but there's a big problem - this harness only has 3 of the 5 wires needed

Can anyone please tell me how to wire this? I have searched to no end, and no, the link to the HOW-TO does not exist anymore thanks to IB nuking all of the original links.

Crutchfield doesn't have the answer either, I tried.

IIRC that is the wrong harness they are on. I will try to remember/look up tomorrow.

Thanks, Don. Last time I installed one of these, I think, and I use the term loosely, I used two resistors in series (56-ohm and 1xx-ohm) coming from the brown/white wire which connected to the white wire of the PAC. I can get the left LED to illuminate (steering wheel input), but t never sequences to the right LED (HU IR). Obviously, somethin' ain't right.

^^that sounds about right, save for the exact resistances which I don't remember at all.

I could have swore those were the correct resistors to use, but hopefully The Don can clarify. I'll post a new thread since no HOW-TO seems to exist anymore.

How-to?! We just use the horrible cryptic installation paper that comes with it.

You mean the one that references splicing 5 wires with any old resistor under 2k-ohms to an adapter that does not even feature 2 of the 5 wires purportedly required?

SHOOT, I just thought of something - there are two brown/white wires...any chance you happen to remember which one you spliced to back in the day?

Now I'm going to assume the answer to the following question is because you already own the SWI-X,

but why don't you just get the manuf-specific PAC unit? SWI-PS, SWI-ALP, etc?

hrmm. Im willing to bet you can get all 5 wires at the steering shroud.

I dont think ive ever done an 01 max. These get easier as you do more.. And I agree with the rest about the specific SWI, but it doesn't really matter. the only difference is the eye or a direct connection with the deck, and programming

Yea you need the PAC-SWI-ECL (eclipse right?)

And if you use the wrong brown wire it won't work right.

...and the delay as well as needing a remote for manual programming.

Most likely ECL2, unless it is an AVN ...

Epic bump, still no resolution on this (but then again I have not tired the other wire yet)

did you check for the wires at the steering column?

I'd call PAC tech support, they're pretty knowledgeable about their products..

The last couple of times I installed a PAC SWI-[ ] I always had my friend wire it up, so I have no firsthand experience, but, does this help clear it up any?

Not sure if you can do this with the manufacture specific adapters but I programmed additional functions in my SWI-X to my Eclipse radio

Vol Up + Vol Down = Mute
Up Arrow + Down Arrow = Next MP3 folder/Next Radio Preset

Download the 2001 EL diagram from my sig and go to page 184. Do those match up to what you have in your car?
