Headunit flashing
Headunit flashing
Ok, in my car, the headunit's screen (it's a Pioneer DEH-1500) flashes when bass hits in my 6x9s...anyone else have this problem? It's mostly noticable at night...any help would be greatly appreciated.
does it sound ok? sometimes if you have your speakers wired out of phase it will cause the lights in the HU to dim out. i would check your polarity at all of you speakers, check your ground, and make sure you have clean power going into the deck.
the thing is...i dont know a good way to check the polarity of my speakers...it had the bose wiring, and i had to splice that all up, and i had it on both ways and either way sounded good, if you know of a good way to find out let me know...and i cant go by like color or size of wires, it ends up changing like 3 times the whole way thru
Ummm, please explain how having the polarity reversed on the deck will cause power problems. that's something I've never heard before.
The problem is the dinky power wire you've got running to the head unit. the stuff the factory puts there is only good for the factory head- which draws about 5A at max current. an aftermarket head with decent power output will easily draw double that.
the lights dimming is low voltage caused by the power wire being too small.
upgrade the power wire to your deck to 12 or 10 awg wire and it should help considerably.
I've also put a small cap in the dash behind the deck and isolated it from the rest of the car with a diode before.. makes a huge difference in stuff like this.

Caps help stabilize the voltage. when your head unit is having problems dumping enough current out because you're beating the bejeezus out of the amp stage with some 6x9s and tiny power input wires, then a cap will help there too. same thing as putting one in your trunk, but a different overall scale.
BTW, I'm not talking about a 1F cap or anything. I'm using computer grade 30,000uF caps. more than enough for this.
