Paint matching the dash kit, anyone done it?

I'm going to be installing an aftermarket HU soon, and have the Metra kit for the 5th gen in all its black ABS plastic glory.

Has anyone here paint matched their dash kit to the color of the rest of the dash? I'm tried a stereo shop, and they said they could vinyl dye it, but it wouldn't be a good match.

I'm thinking to start looking up upholstery shops and see if they can't do it. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to go to get this done?

Thanks!

i thought ur car has the wood interior?

in any case, if ur gonna have something painted, why not have it all painted, similar an aluminum dash kit..then, u wont have to worry about color matching, and u can do it urself..

i think there's a how-to on vqpower

MetaOrbit,
Shoot me a reminder email to november4@hotmail.com

I've painted mine, but I can't remember what brand of paint or color code. I'll check it as soon as I get home from work.

Okay... I almost forgot about this thread. The color that I used is made by DupliColor and it's Graphite Grey. The color code is 88-00928. Now, it's a Honda color, but it's the closest thing that I've found

Here's a pic of my dash....

The color match looks great! I know I'll probably look into this myself...thanks for the info. I also see a pic of a C-90 on the site, but in another car. Right on!

Tony, just trying to contribute to the .org

And it's good to see someone else who appreciates how great of a deck the c-90 is. That deck was in a Civic that I had. I hate to say that I no longer have it. I sold it because of the way the display washed out in direct sunlight, especially sitting pretty high up in a Civic's dash.

Now, if I can get up off of my @ss and (1) buy my dvd player, (2) buy my subs (probably 12w6v2's), and (3) install my Arc amps I might be able to get started on my performance mods.

Tony, the aperiodic setup looks great. How is the bass extension?

nghtfthlngknvs - thanks for the compliment.

dougjones - I appreciate you looking up the color code and all. I just realized, however, that Maxima's center console is that silverish color like yours. Mine is beige-ish like the rest of my dash, so I guess I'll have to find a matching color some other way. You said you used Duplicolor paint? Looks like a trip to autozone is in order.

Thanks!

Meta - No prob man. I'm pretty sure you'll find what you need at autozone. By the way, very nice ride indeed.

Yes, the display is horrible in the daylight!! And it turns purple after you've had it one for a long time. But...the SQ is considered to be one of THE best. I just ignore the bad display.

Thanks...the bass extension is incredible. I just measured the output again yesterday. Using 63Hz as the baseline, 50 Hz is +1dB, 40Hz is -1dB, 32Hz is
-4dB, and 25Hz is is -2dB. I suppose I could mess around with the thickness of the membrane some more and get a flatter response, but it sounds really good the way it is. It's the quick attack and detailed articulation that impresses me the most, though...it's almost like the subs are in my front doors rather then behind the seats. I couldn't be happier.
