Replacing Bose Headunit..

Hey guys,
I have a 96 Max and it just stopped playing my CDs, both burnt cds and store bought. I went to walmart and bought a can of compressed air and a CD cleaner kit. This has happened before but it started to work after about 30 minutes. Anybody else had this problem? can i just replace the Headunit? My dad told me they made an adapter so i can use a aftermarket headunit with the stock bose stereo.

Thanks guys,

Sean

same thing happened to me a few months back... i purchased an alpine HU and got it installed with-out the convertor at a audio shop... it still allowed me to keep the stock Bose speakers but now the sound quality is much better..

I replaced my Bosy HU with a JVC kameleon. I got a convertor from best buy and they installed it. Sound is way better + more bass and the bose speakerswere built for that. I would get a convertor off the net if i did it again, on some site you can get one that plugs into the bose wire connectors (best buy crimps all wires together) so good luck to U

Wow. I just got done installing my Kenwood 5025. It is soo loud now. Yes i bought the stupid adapter for 50 bux. But it allowed me 2 adjust the gain to full blast. My stock bose speakers hit hard then ever now. Sounds like it has 2 12s in it allready. My dad said he heard it inside and i only had it half was up.

later guys

The sound is louder and cleaner, but I dont know if it hits that hard lol.. I just adjusted the EQ on my HU, since I didn't buy the convertor. I still can't rip em out, but the'll work for now

You got the instructions for the install without the interface?

no sorry no instructions on How-To, but a few other org membershave done the install without the convertor... I believe that mine was done by bypassing the pre-outs on my HU, and like i said many times it sounds great.. so i would spend that 50 bucks on something more worthwhile since there is no need for the convertor.. the only thing i can see is that the install is plug and play but i could be wrong

I did mine without anything, just hardwired it straight. With the advice of Pearl96Max, I bypassed my bose amps and that made me lose my tweeters but oh well, the speakers hit nice now. The only problem is, i used some spare speaker wire from my house and they have no connectors on the ends, so i tied them up to the wires right under the cone but when the bass hit it makes popping noises cause everything moves. So i either have to solder the wires to the connectors or but connectors at radio shack. I dont know which one is better, i think solder because the contact is direct.
