XM's music stations went 100% commercial free Feb 1st...
I chose XM because I was forced to, since I wanted an Alpine HU. I cant comment on Sirius as I've never heard it. Sirius is $3 more per month ($13 as oppsed to XM's $10). Sirius does give access to all their stations online, which I think is cool. However, XM's membership is KILLING Sirius's, and will only grow...I think mostly because of the price difference. More memberships=more revenue=XM will only get better

Anyway, I have Sirius and I love it. I think the programming is superior to XM.

I listen to my Sirius at work all day with the internet access. Its great. Go to Sirius.com and click on the Listen tab at the top of the page. As a guest user you can listen to 20 minutes of programming for free! Also, Sirius just lowered their membership with online rebates so that its now closer to $10 per month.
Excellent Programming + Online Access + $10/month + High quality equipment + 100% commercial free + a TON of Bass = Sirius Check it out.

I like XM better, been with them since the beginning. I like them even more now that all their misic stations are commercial free. I personally didn't see paying the extra money a month, granted it's only a couple of bucks. Now that XM is commercial free it is even a better deal, I haven't listened to regular radio since I bought it.

I've had Sirius for over a year now and I love it. I gladly pay my $13 every month. As far as I am concerned, I would pay more. Not only does Sirius offer commercial-free music streams, they have the best lineup of sports coverage.
Starting this fall, Sirius is the Official Satellite Radio Partner of the NFL. They will broadcast ALL of the games, including playoffs. Sirius also has up to 40 NHL & NBA games every week including the NHL playoffs, Stanley Cup® and the NBA championship game.
When I signed up, they only had the NBA. Then they go and add the NHL and now the NFL and the price is still $13 a month.
And as far as the growth of Sirius in the future, clich the link below and read the article.

I absolutely love the XM comedy channels. I could listen to them all day, and I think they're great for long highway drives. I don't know if Sirius has comedy, but if not, I'd definitely go XM for that alone. I also like the music on XM. But again, I've never heard Sirius.

Got XM for xmas but just hooked it up within the last week. Really happy with it so far. Since they just cut streaming audio from us at work this was my next best way around the problem. Just got the Delphi SkyFi with the box attachment and I am back to working with tunes again. More than happy with music selection. Only wish it had the sports options that Sirius has especially NHL. My .02

I was faced with the same decision a year ago and after reading all of the message boards and each of the companies pros and cons, I ended up getting the Sirius equiptment here on the org for free. I absolutely love it. They recently revamped their lineup and the 80's and 90's stations are great. I also listen to the comedy stations all the time as they are great relief on long trips. Stern is more likely to go with Sirius for the simple fact that Clear Channel owns 30% of XM's stock and Stern hates Clear Channel.

XM has a geo stationary orbit at the equator with 2 sats. Sirius has this pretty wild figure 8 orbit that goes over the center of the us and up into canada with 3 sats. So from that sirius has the potential of better reception.
I have the sirius and love it.
The new audiovox tuner broadcasts to 1 of 4 FM freq. So install is just power and antenna and that is it.

Alpine is also releasing their Sirius tuner this year.
My gut tells me that nearly everyone will have both starting with the 05 HUs.

I remember paying about 155 for my first year in advance. That comes to about $13/month for sirius. But you got one month free at the time for the pay in advance. So my guess is the difference was sales tax.
It wasn't like my cell phone where my plan is $40/month, but there's 15/month in taxes.

I can't get a straight answer out of either service's website. The words "digital quality" are thrown around a lot but is either service CD-quality sound? I'm a nutcase for sound quality, I won't even bother burning 128kbps mp3s to listen to in the car.

If 128 MP3s arent good enough for you, then neither service will satisfy your SQ needs. But I think the selection mroe than makes up for it.

I really want the Sirius, but with just getting my 04, i'm trying to get ahead of the payments first. I want the lifetime sub from Sirius, but you have to get it by August, $500. The factory install would be nice, using my wheel controls and no clutter, but about $600 at dealer. A kenwood portable would allow me to have the service everywhere and is less than $200 for everything.
Sirius is getting equal offerings and even a few exclusive deals with some auto co. And I read they have new technology planned for install in their systems for 05. Pretty sure I read that XM also recycles a lot of programs and many are clear channel already on regular radio, where Sirius is all original and completely commercial free (not just the music once some competition appears).

I've had Sirius in my home for a few weeks now and I am addicted to it! I really like their programming variety, particularly "First Wave" (classic new wave/alternative) and "Left Of Center" (indie rock).
Plus, XM is partially owned by Clear Channel...that was enough to steer me away from it!
