subs/amp too heavy, "downgraded" system
I had put in a pair of Diamond M6's and a Soundstream Van Gogh 500/4 amp.
My rear end sat about an inch or two lower than normal...
My car didn't take corners as well, and I could feel that my car was a bit more sluggish.
I estimate that it weighed about 100 lbs.
I took out the amp and the box. I installed ONE Diamond M3 and I am running it bridged ch1 and 2 off of my Soundstream Van Gogh 320/4. Channels 3 & 4 are powernig my Boston Z6's up front still...
Before I downgraded I was using 2 channels off of this amp to power my Boston Pro Series 5.5's in the back AND my Boston Z6's in the front.
Now that I didn't have any thing to power my Bostons in the rear, I had to break out old faithful....a 1994 model Alpine 3527S...
This amp ROCKS! its older than dirt, and it's now in its 4th car..
originally in a 1987 Honda Accord LXi
then in a 1994.5 Sentra LE
then in a 1998 Sentra SE (sr20de)
now in my 2003 Maxima SE TE
what a life this little guy has had.
Oh yea, the M3 doesn't even sound bad...considering I had two M6's before.

yeah my box with the amp on it weighs about 90. makes me understeer more on the highway. i know its impossible, but i wish the max had a jacked up rear end, not the front. that way my system would take care of that . i think its worth it though, i dont drag race really and if i put better tires on it will make up the difference in the 1/4 if i do go race.

pretty much the same deal here, so im looking for a good set of components up front, and a pair of midbass/free air 6.5 woofers for the rear deck, and am going to power everything off of a soundstream ega4220 amp.

this is a response to your sig...
"buh bye ricer"
the other day I had a 2001 or 2002 Sentra SE-R tailgate me on the highway...
I decided that for my safety there needed to be a larger gap between the two of us..ya know, the 2 second rule...
anyway, I dropped it in 3rd and said..."buh bye"...

I wish my stuff weighed only 100lbs My rear end sits even with my front end tough
The front fender-ground is 25.25" & same for the rear. (used to be 25.75")
As far as cornering goes, lets just say I dont even bother trying anymore
If I was trying to make a car fast, I personally wouldnt go beyond a nice HU, a good set of comps & an amp to power them. Thats it, no sub(s) ect...

I decided to go with just one sub, too, mostly for weight and space reasons.
I made it somewhat easy to take out (just the sub box) with a couple of screws and quick releases on the wires so I can take the box out for the drag races.
Some of those amps built in the mid 90s are pretty much bulletproof. I have a Phoenix Gold M44 that is more than 10 years old. I drove to MrGone's house (200+miles one way) with the MP3 player going the whole time and the amp barely got warm. The front two channels are powering my D.A. 6.5s and the rear two are bridged and powering my 12" DVC Eclipse sub.

Here is an interesting tidbit.
Last summer, i raced at the track.
2 FULL 1/4 mile runs on my 2k3 maxima 6speed
15.1 seconds
My trunk had 2 12" infinity perfect 12.1's amps, and junk... etc..
NEXT: clear out trunk and the spare tire
2 1/4mile runs back to back
14.5 secs 1/4 mile..
Any questions?
