New Escort 8500 X50!!!

http://www.escortradar.com/x50.htm

Hm...wonder what kind of b.s. this marketing scheme is...
Although I have to admit, the blue led looks great, but don't think it's worth the extra 40 bucks.

Does anyone own the new 8500 and compared it to the old 8500?

Not likely since they don't start shipping until April '04.

I'm not a big fan of Escort radars.

Hm...maybe I'll just wait for the blue version to come out. I was thinking about buying an 8500 in the next few days.

Besides color choices, how is the 8500 X50 different from the regular 8500?

Has anyone tried to open their 8500 and change the red light to blue? $40 extra for that is a blatant marketing ploy. I would think the price would drop instantly if we could change it ourselves....and then post about it on numerous forums.

Exactly. Besides, according to that link the "new" is going to have better reception too, not just different color.

Then again, it doesn't say better reception THAN WHAT. The old unit? Valentine one? All other cheap detectors? The jury will be out until it's tested against real competion like the V1 and top end Bel stuff.

It claims that it has a new hardware.
When I had an 8500, it says that it's "upgradable". So much for that!

The police in my area all use laser so unless it has perfect laser detection, which is just a dream, I am not blowing 300 bucks.

"Not I", said the electrically challenged Maxima owner....

I just thought maybe someome may have tried it already. There's a bunch of org members that have done some wild things with lighting.

For the areas prone to lazer. te best ivestment with your 8500 is the ZR3. It will link to your 8500 and will do a fantastic job killing the lazer gun from it's reading.

OH yeah!!! I recommend the ZR3 ...100%!!! I live in FL area and theres lots of Laser gun usage. I have access to PRO laser III, LTI laser, Stalker... I've jammed them all! I love the ESCORT Passport... it sold me cause it links with the ZR3... Just get the newest UPGRADE from Escort and you'll get the sensitivity increase also, with some POP mode recognition. But the Blue LED is pretty nice!

Let me ask you a question. So the Laser jammer does work?!!! Also does it turn itself off after a couple of seconds so the cop can ge a reading? Because otherwise wouldnt he get suspicious if he cant get a laser reading?

IT doesnt turn itself off after a couple of seconds, theres a mute button that can be placed at a remote location anywhere that you use to disable the system for 60 seconds, after the warning sounds, you should SAFELY check your speed and slow down if needed, then simply press the disable button twice, and it will disarm for 60 seconds, Escort recommends you do this within 5 seconds, so as not to arise any suspicion.

So far the ZR3 hasnt generated a jammer code, and when used correctly and as recommended there shouldnt be much suspicion. Police are definately NOT ignorant about these types of equipment when they use laser, they go through training and come out Certified in using these Lidar guns, and jamming is an issue. Lidar uses IR light which is regulated by the FDA for eye safety rather than FCC so there are NO federal laws banning use, only state level law enacted by these states (quoted by Escort.)..California, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Utah.

i love my escort, its served me well in the past and hopefully in the future... theres no magic box that will tell you "COP AHEAD" , with today's every evolving technology, things change, that includes Automatic door openers.. they operate on K band signals.. Most good detectors are K band sensitive, and I like that.. you just have to use it wisely. But I recommend a Escort Passport 8500 simply because its $100 cheaper than the Valentine V1 and does the same job effectively and in some cases BETTER.
