2k1 Stock Stereo

I just got a 2001 SE about a month ago. Before it I had a 99 GLE. My only beef with the new car is that the stereo seems lacking in the bass department. Now, if my minor guesswork is correct, the 2001 has a very small subwoofer with an amp in the very back, I took a look from inside the trunk. Is this correct? If so, can I do a swap for a new, more heavily powered sub? I know that changing things in Bose stereos is often tough, if not impossible. The whole system doesn't seem to get as loud as the previous one, but the overall quality and sound separation is leaps and bounds above it. Is there any way to get the volume up a bit or are they locked there so they don't blow?
