I must confess that I don't know all that much about sound systems but I went into a sound shop the other day and I decided to buy some stuff. Haven't completed the sale yet and just want an opinion or 2 before i do.


Here is the hardware
Alpine 9811 deck with MP3
soundstream amp for 4 6.5 boston rallye speakers with crossovers and tweeters
Boston 1100 amp to run either 2 10" boston subs or one 15" sub
monster cables throughout.

Is there a better system for reasonable amount of money? Like I said I don't know much about sound but I was told that boston is quite good.
is 2 10" subs better thatn the 15" I don't think i can fit 2 12" because of space issues. I still need to use the trunk.

THe whole system installed should cost me less than $1500

What would be a better system for the money?

 

It's hard to tell without knowing your tastes in music as well as if you're after SQ or SPL.

the system you chose is definitely good! there's no doubting that but it won't be hard to get more for your money!

with a name like Mack Daddy sounds like you could be into blaring SPL so it won't be hard to come up with something nice. If you're into rap or hip hop i would go with the single 15 definitely (ported if possible, i understand the space concerns)

HEAD UNIT : Clarion ProAudio DXZ745MP - i like it more than the alpine and it should be cheaper, i would take it over the alpine hands down personally.

Amazing speakers everybody loves them and this is a great deal (NO rear speakers)

AMP FOR SPKRS: JBL Power P-180.2 ($120) 90X2 @12.x volts. I love these amps, well worth the money and don't get hot. (www.sounddomain.com)

AMP for sub: Hifonics Brutus 1000 $232 (ebay)

SUBWOOFER: Resonant Engineering SX series 15" woofer, $275 (www.respl.com) email them

That's ~$1035, now you just have to create your own box to spec or have someone make it for you, pay for your monster cables and install.

THis system will blow your mind, i would pimp it

 

dont forget dash kit, wires for h/u, etc.

 

i agree with lex on almost most everything he said except for the sub. for a small amount more you could grab an Adire Brahma MKII which in my opinion is the best SQ/SPL balanced sub on the market. you could feed it the same power as the RE and it would probably sound better.

 

yeah i would choose the brahma over my choice as well, i was just under the impression it was 425 or so new. If it's considerably cheaper, could work out very nicely!

Ok thanks guys I will check that stuff out. It is not always awailable here because I live in the middle east.
Again this stuff is a bit new to me. This may be a dumb question but who make the CL=61A speakers? Is it clarion?
Also Lex, why no back speakers in the door? THere are already some there wouldn't it be wise to just upgrade them?

 

cdt audio makes them. rear speakers are not usually heard in cars, in my max i cant. but id recommend upgrading them anyway with some cdt cl6x's. they are $45 at thezeb.com and they are a steal at that price. you can also find the cl61'as there for $150.
