cdt cl61a's! you can always amp em if you need to but as long as you have a decent h/u i think you will like the mids/highs. dont expect much bass at high volumes though.

Would this work decently with the stock non-bose head unit?

If it's possible I would like to replace just my front components, and then down the road maybe a basslink. But if doing components and keeping the stock HU is a waste of money, I'll just live with the stock stuff (which sounds decent enough to live with, for me .

throw in the components and you will notice an improvement but of course to get the most out of them they should be amped.

Look at what components you like. Then compare their sensitivity rating. The higher the sensitivity the louder the speaker will play with a given amount of power when compared to another speaker with a lower rating.

I'm going to be really picky, but that is only generally true. The way they measure the sensitivity is with 1 watt at 1 meter, and because of the nature of speakers their gains aren't linear. One speaker may only produce 80 db with 1 watt at 1 meter and then produce 83 dbs with 2 watts at 1 meter while another speaker may produce 81 dbs at 1 watt/meter and then 82 dbs at 2 watts/meter.

As a suggestion, they only play the higher frequencies, but horns are extremely efficient.

you really can't expect much bass out of anything thats not a subwoofer, i'd worry more about quality sound reproduction, i love my pioneer coaxials, and i love the componets they make in the REV series, very very nice... check them out http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn..._35027,00.html

I have been debating on wether or not to buy these speakers. Currently I just have an alpine cda-9811 hooked up to my stock Bose speakers. It sounds ok, but I was wondering if you knew how much better the CDT components w/o an external amp would sound as opposed to my current set-up?? Thanks

i run my cdts off the h/u right now and imo they sound great for running off a h/u.

I agree with Nismos14, if they need more power to sound better to you then save up for an amplifier. From my experience it would be best if you bought what you really wanted. This way you will not end up with a set of speakers that you will probably end up selling, only to get what you originally had in mind. I have done this before, and it is a waste of money. I make more careful choices now, and just wait if I have to.

i agree with that 100% but with the smaller companies (read internet based companies) its alot harder to check out each speaker. so take peoples opinions and then check out some more name brands out then make your decision.
