Adding video to a 2k2+

Alright guys, nearly every day to and from school and work I think about this...how in the world am I going to fit a screen in my car. I have a nice headunit and I dont want to replace it. I could get a flip out screen, or maybe flush mount it in the double din area. What I'm looking for really is what other 2k2+ owners have done in order to get a good video setup. I don't want to spend a ton of money, and I want to use my headunit. Should i just get sunvisor TVs? Any suggestions would be great!

As far as I know TravisC is the only guy on the .org to put a 7" screen flush into his dash. He replaced his bose double-din with redmax's screen, relocated his HU to the climate control panel location, and moved the climate control down 1 more slot. To move the climate control down he needed to remove and cut off the section that includes the ashtray, hazard lights, and cigarette lighter. Also, to mold his screen into his dash and fill in all the empty spots he made fiberglass mounts.

Mid-Process pictures and info : http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....9&page=9&pp=30

As you can see he has a small opening below the climate control in which he is planning to fab a fiberglass piece to fill in the gap.

Hopeful to be helpful

Actually I did it about a month ago. Relocating the radio to where the ashtray/hazard button goes. Everything fit fine and looked good, but unfortunately someone broke it. Ill leave his name out of it for obvious reasons...

I saw what TravisC did, I like the look but its a ton of work. I can't see doing all that when I'm going to one day return the car to stock. Unless I could just buy a new center piece or something and mold fiberglass around that.

The one Don made looked very good. Now only if it didn't break so easily.

Without custom fabrication, i think the only way is getting an indash motorized screen. What's the largest size LCD that will fit in the 5th gen sunvisors?

So if I go custom...what type of material should I use? Fiberglass or just what? I dont want this thing to fall apart on me in a month or two.

yea that was being done to mine...
i broke it...cause im clumsy. heres what it was gonna look like...and what it still will, just...in more time

the microvision screen fits PERFECTLY in the GXE dash, with some trimming of the screen bezel. the f'glassed piece (at that point) was still being cleaned up and wasnt painted yet by Don...he did an amazing job but i messed it up. it will be done shortly, soon

....does anyone know of a junkyard or someone parting out their interior? i need an auto shifter trim....

hamy...for the most custom look, this is your best bet, it really does look sweet.

^^ YES that is exactly what I want. So your using a GXE dash trim and the screen fits perfect? I wonder how I could get ahold of one...also what type of fiberglass was used and where could I get ahold of some??

djfrestyl, that looks good. So unlike travisc, you didn't move the climate control down but just moved the headunit down? Or are you planning on moving the climate control down?

Nope there was no need to move the climate control at all. The pic posted above is actually when it was VERY rough, but just to get the idea....

Hey DON,

I had that idea for the longest time to put it under the climate control..

the only limiting factor is the depth of the headunit... does it clear?/

I am going to get started on this..

Depth wasnt as much of an issue as width was. Some of the sides had to be trimmed down a bit. Nothing noticable once the trim is back in place though.
