Spray on sound insulator

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with a spray on sound insulator or know if the stuff actually works. Ive seen some products here and there over the years but I can't think of an exact product. So anyone use this stuff before ?

I asked one of my friends who worked at an audio shop about it. He said it works ok, but not as good as the mat material. I have not tried it myself though. I figure there are spots where it's hard to get your hands in to put the mat material in, and for this it would be great. Also for areas under the car or the wheel wells.

The whole point of sound deadener is to mass load a surface, meaning, the more densely you load that surface, the better it is going to reflect sound waves. The spray works well for the cracks and corners, but for the most part, the mat works alot better. You can pick up the mat just about anywhere.

Just do a search on Ebay for the following, all are good products :

Rammat
Brownbread
Dynamat

If you want to go really cheap, you could use "tar paper". They use it mainly in roofing, but its basicly the same thing, just cheaper. You will need some spray adhesive if you use this.

It works very well in conjuction with the traditional mat deadener. What I did with my doors was put a layer of the deadener on the outside skin of the door and then follow it up with a couple of cans of Noisekiller Grey. I just used aluminum foil to cover up everything on the inside of the door that I didn't want the spray to get on. I have pics on my homepage.
