Steering stereo controls with aftermarket head unit?
Steering stereo controls with aftermarket head unit?
If i replace the non-Bose stock headunit on my '03 Maxima, how can i preserve the functionality of the steering controls and use them with the new aftermarker CD receiver?? Is this possible?
I know that there must be a wiring kit to do the trick, but i cannot recall what it was called and where to find it. Anyone knows? What have you used that works well with such setup??
Thanks!

This is a two step process. First you have to obtain the PAC-SWI adapter from Crutchfield or some other mobile audio dealer. This will allow you to utilize the radio functions on the steering wheel. Secondly, to regain use of the trip computer (the one with temp, DTE, MPG, etc.) you have to first locate the small wiring harness you removed from the stock deck, but diudn't use in the install of your aftermarket deck. This is a small harness with 4-5 wires in it. One of these wires is brown with a white stripe/marking. This wire must be cut from the harness, the stripped and grounded. I recommend grounding it to the large metal peice below the vents (you can use a small screw or electrical tape), or any other grounding site. This will now give you full use of all steering wheel controls.

I have the PAC-SWI, just check out my audio page of my website for pics of where I installed the LED.
Don't get it from Crutchfield because they cost way to much $$. I paid something like $54 shipped, but I can't remember where I got it. Just google search it and I'm sure you'll beable to find some for that cheap.

I found the adapter. It's $69 at Crutchfield. I wish i could find it cheaper somewhere else....
Thanks!
I bought mine from here:

I was wondering, do I just hook up resistors to the 5 wires, then connect all of those to the white wire? Besides that, power and ground, is there any other wires to wire up? I have a 2001 maxima.
