Vintage HUs?

Pioneer Premier DEX-P1R... they're about 3-4 years old. should be able to pick them up pretty cheap now.
it's a dead head though, with 3 sets of 4V preouts- so you'll have to have external amps for all your speakers. Also has built in EQ, crossover, and time alignment. very versatile. 120dB S/N when you used the internal CD player. very nice.
they went for about $7-800 new in 1999-2000.

I'm sure there are, but I've been using Pioneer head units exclusively since... hmmm, '92 or so.. this is my 3rd head unit (the P1R) and I'm extremely happy with it. I haven't even bothered to look around to see what's out there other than this one. When I do finally decide to upgrade, I think the newest variant of this one is the P3 or something, and I'll get it or the newest best unit from Pioneer. it's a good thing, so I'm sticking with it.

Eclipse 5303R...was $650 new...Now like $150, Look for anything from Alpine that is preamp only. CDA7949 is a good one, any Alpine that is a CDA79...whatever is great. Also check out Clarion Pro Audio 900 series...Good luck.

I have an Alpine 7949 and it is a great HU. The only problem is that it has a hard time playing some CD-R's. If you can find some Mitsui CD-R's you should not have any problems playing them.
