rear deck sub

rear deck sub

want to replace rear deck sub with after market, but i want a 10 inch sub woofer instead of the 8. my problem is i need a different type of bracket to mount because the bracket the factory (BOSE) are mounted on are crap.

not sure how the 2002s are, but in my 99 to use the rear deck for a sub I would have to replace the trunk lift rods that run across the underneath rear deck

Sounds like you need to make a custom bracket among other things. A trim ring out of MDF is pretty simple. Just make sure the sub you get will work as a free-air sub. Look for a high Qts (or a high Qms). Also, the stated power handling of a sub is for the voice coil only. For example, an Adire Tempest (15") will handle 600 watts electrically. If you mount it in an infinite baffle configuration, it only takes about 140 watts to bottom it out. Bottom it out too much and you destroy it.

Not too mention that you would also probably want to reinforce the entire rear deck so that it does not rattle like an SOB or fall apart for that matter.
