Installing Amp Wire

I am having trouble running a wire from the battery to inside the car, i have a 2002 nissan maxima se , without bose system , i am going to install a amp with a aftermarket HU , i need to run the red power wire from the battery to the trunk , i found the opening i tried to go via coat hanger and i was unsucessfull in getting the wire thru, there is a patch there with cotton and metal behind it inside the car, do i need to drill a hole in it? is there a easy way to run that wire without drilling holes?

please assist, i am sure there is a faq for it, but i was not able to search for it.

Yes, drill a hole in it and make sure there isn't anything on the other side where the drill bit may hit. File the edges of the hole and put a rubber grommet inside the hole so that the wire doesn't pinch from the metal. Run the wire on the same side of the battery and under the door sills thru the trunk. It may be easier to remove the bottom half of the back seat to fish the wires to the trunk.

I'm not sure about 5th gens but my 4th gen had a perfect hole. If you look at the engine bay it should be right in the middle on the firewall. It was covered with a little black rubber piece that just popped right out. I'll try to get a pic of it tomorrow.
