false floor questions...
hey guys. I'm planning on making a false floor in my trunk, and i had some questions for you guys that have done it. First of all, I want my floor to be raised about 2in, and i don't know what's the best way to do this. I was thinking about making a rectangular frame from some boards, and then screw on the top part to that frame. Is there any other/better way to raise the floor? Second part of my question is what kind of material would you use for this kind of project? Ofcourse i don't want it to weigh alot, but i do want it to be kind of sturdy. And the last thing is how did you deal with the wierd shape of the back wall that's closest to rear bumper? Cuz after i'm done i want my trunk to look as close to stock as possible. Thanks in advance for any help.
best to use is 3/4 inch mdf its very easy to work with, and just recarpet the top of the board instead of using the stock carpet. just trace out the carpet on the 3/4 mdf and then cut it and then cut it in half so u can slide it in piece by piece to make it easier or carpet it and fold it and put it in like that
nismos14 has the right idea, but don't forget to compensate for the sides where the factory carpet goes under the side panels. Best thing to do would be position the factory carpet as it would normally rest in the trunk & then trim the carpet around the side panels before you trace it onto the MDF.
Also the 3/4" MDF is going to be very sturdy in the center. So your only going to want to make braceing for specific areas around the floor (sides, back, front) you do not need to fabricate a complete frame unless you are short on air space. For a single woofer the recess where the spare tire would normally be should be more then enough.
The enclosure that is going to rest in the spare tire area should be built as a octagon shape to take advantage of the limited space. A square shape probably isn't going to cut it unless you using a single 10" woofer. good luck on the project & make sure to post some photo's of the operation for us ok???
