Replacing Bose HU w/ Kenwood DDX7015

Hey guys. Sorry if this is a repost, but since the search feature doesn't work.....

I'm looking for opinions about the Kenwood DDX7015. I need a Double Din HU and it's the only one that I've seen that looks good. I'm putting it in my 'new' 1999 Infiniti I30, so whatever I get, I want it to look upscale and polished. All the other Double Din units I've seen have lots of silver accents. I want black, so it will match the rest of the dash better.

I've never played with the DDX7015, but have heard that the GUI is ugly and stupid. Are there any other comparable units out there?

Looking for all opinions about this.

I dont know about ulgy but there is no fan fair it has no screen savers ,just a few wall papers that are really bad witch is the only gripe i have about the ddx 7015 but if you read some reviews you will see it is a dam fine unit . You will also find that all the 2-din units have low 2-3volt outputs to the amps ,nothing a good line driver wont fix, kenwood trys to get you to buy the dsp for 5volt out puts i have a few pics .I love this deck
click Here for pics of ddx-7015 in 4th gen maxima
these pics were taken 5 min after my install so the car is kind of a mess.

Ok. Thanks for the tips guys. I think I'm going to go with an Eclipse AVN2454. I just compared it side by side with the Kenwood and there's no comparison IMHO. The Eclipse just looks like a more upscale unit where the Kenwood looks like your typical aftermarket HU. Most importantly though, the touchscreen on the Eclipse is 80% more responsive. The Kenwood had a hard time registering commands through the touchscreen. With the Kenwood I sometimes had to touch the screen 3-4-5 times just to play, pause, stop, etc...The Eclipse had perfect one-touch control every single time. The Eclipse's screen is brighter and crisper too. The GUI on the Kenwood is ridiculous. With all that technology, they really should have put a little time in creating an attractive interface with optional colors, screensavers, EQ, etc. And with the onboard navigation system, the Eclipse is a much more attractive unit all the way around...the only thing it's missing is satellite radio controls. So yeah, the Eclipse is $1000 more, but IMO worth every penny.

One final note...I have no personal problem with Kenwood. The deck in my truck is Kenwood, and I'm 90% pleased with it. I just think they cut a lot of corners with this particular unit. Future attempts should be much better.

Yeah the graphics suck but the issue with the controls is the adjustable touch screen needs to be adjusted when you install the unit.

I had the DDX in my 97 I30t and I just moved it to my 2k2 Maxima. I think it looks fine and I've had no problems with the touch screen. Just my $.02. I don't need a screensaver because its always on the Navi screen.

darrick, agreed. besides, for the price of the Eclipse (which has less preamp volts than the DDX), I got the headunit AND the Navi. The Eclipse unit is not DVD based navi anyway. It's like the new Pioneer AVIC- N1, you have to preload the destination.

bg18461, Sure, if I get home early enough tonight, I'll take some pics.

Here's a quick pic. I still need to get a trim piece to fill the sides up. I think Circuit City has something that might work. I have a navi screen pic at home that I'll upload as well, if interested.
