I used to own a Valentine 1.. then through some undisclosed circumstances, I do not have it anymore, and I think I'm for the most part fine without it. My rear-view mirror is my best friend. Just watch for them cops lingering somewhere behind you, and keep watch in front of you too, just when you speed.

The false alarms sucked, too. Driving through a shopping area is a pain and I used to just pull the plug out.

I just got used to the false alarms and loud annoying X band falses, its not a big deal once you get used to it, when im on the phone or having a conversation I might find the need to turn the volume down, but otherwise, I filter it right out and it doesnt bother me as much as when I first got the unit.

I think there is a group deal going on right now on s2forum.com for the Valentine 1.

I look at radar detectors this way. "There kinda like having triple A you never know when your gonna need it & the first time you do it pays for itself".

i think as long as you are aware of your surroundings, and you kno the area well, then u will be fine... but it does feel a little bit safer having a radar detector

[rant] Ok, I haven't completely read through this thread, but how about this advice: just don't speed. You can save lots of money on tickets, gas, and wear and tear on your car. If you're in a hurry, leave earlier. If you're late for work, make it a habit to leave at a decent time. If you have a really long commute, you can carpool, take a bus, plane, whatever. If you REALLY like driving so fast that you actually need some more crap sitting in your car, there are plenty of race tracks for that. I have owned 3 radar detectors, and each broke down on me. I have no use for them anymore. The speed limit is there for a reason. Police are only trying to keep people like you from hurting yourself or others. [/rant]

I hear you. We were all that age once, however when you have to feed a kid and pay your own rent paying $200 for a speeding ticket seems kind of a waste of cash. Just my $0.02

You have valid points. However, I dont speed for the sake of making up for lost time. I speed for the thrill of it. I also kind of have somewhat of a rebellious streak, so getting away with it creates an adrenaline rush. The key is knowing where you can and cant speed. I love it when I'm doing 90 in a 60, I see a cop clocking on the side of the road, or my radar detector goes off, slow down until the signal goes away, then kick it right back up to 90 usually right as i'm going by him. I also love flashing my brights for like miles at opposing traffic when I see one clocking the opposite way.

You all might think i'm a sick bastard, but I just think I love beating the system wherever I can.

sharkulator, if a cop stopped you and told you that you are doing over speeding limit, can you ask him to show you the gun and what speed you are doing?

I rember in 2002 a cop stoped my budy, he calimed he was doing over 86mph
, so he asked the cop to show the gun, they stared on big arrugment, and he show it him after 20min take, then he singend it.
My budy said there was no speeding on the gun, so he took it to the court and won.

Go to your profile at the top of the page and then on the left hand side go down to Subscribed Threads Folders, List Subscriptions and then once your list comes up go down to the bottom of the page and select show all threads and then on the right hand colomn there is a box to unsubscribe to thread.

Hope this helps, I guess your getting tired of like 25 new emails an hour huh.

I have the escort 8500 X50. Sold my 7500 that saved me plenty of times to upgrade to the 8500 X50. Picked up a cop coming back from Atlantic City in my dad's caddy. Cop was around a curve, over a slight hill sitting under the road construction sign. Way to go 8500 X50 *thumbsup*

No Seriously... Just follow traffic and then some, key is to know when to slow down and when to take advantage of those gaps in the right lane and gun it at 90

Yee haw , no i've gotten to many tickets to f**** around.. 93 in 55... at 18 in my 94 maxima. motha fugggga i am still to this day paying for it with insurance rates.

that ticket cost 180$ cash up front , plus atleast 5000$ in 5 years in insurance alone.

please

HAHAHAHAHA, sorry to say but you have been duped. Check out this link www.radarbusters.com. Everyone should check this out, it contains some of the best reviews of radars ever. Very recent. I am a Valentine User myself and can't stress enough how much it has saved me. Over 6 times in one trip alone.

It still baffles me that in the age of the internet and consumer reports that people still have such messed up views about radar detectors.

I'm sorry folks but I've just waded thru 4 pgs that are full of terribly bad information. Don't get me wrong, there are some of you that know what you're talking about, several actually. Other people are so far out there that it makes you wonder if they should be driving at all.

In a very short nutshell, a RD is nothing but a tool. It is NOT a force field to keep you from getting tickets. A tool, by definition, is only as good as it's operator. You have to react to what the instrument tells you, and some instruments are better than others. If you go around driving like an idiot, you'll get a ticket even if NASA was trying to help. Point is that if used correctly, you will correct results.

BTW, It's ironic that someone that has zero experience, i.e. never owned one, would give any kind of advice as to the merits of something they never used. That's being an arm chair quarterback. If you can't afford one, say you can't afford one. If you've never used one, then you're no authority as to which one works or not.

Beware of sites that "test" equipment they are later trying to SELL you. That's not called unbiased testing. That's called advertising.

BTW, V1 is very very good though.

Hate to tell you that those don't work as advertised at all.

Sorry, but those will only give you a false sense of security. Beware.

By the time you slow down the cop already nailed you. The best radar detector is to just not go more than 10MPH over

You should, but you'll go right by the fuse panel to get to it. Passport sells a hardwire kit, although you can make one out of a standard phone cord you get at Walmart for much cheaper.
