Custom Box and Amp/Sub question.

Hey, i got a 98 GLE with the factory BOSE. I want to add an amp and sub.

I just need an amp to run the sub, what kind of amp and sub is the cheapest/best quality? Can i use the ebay amps, such as Lanzar and Legacy?

Also, i hate the look of a sub in a box that has no place in the trunk, so i want a custom box made. Is it possible for me to make one, how difficult would it be? if anyone has done this, how much did it cost you?

Thanks alot

Sounds like you should check out a few of your local shops to get a few more ideas. They can give you some estimates and ideas on which products you could use according to your budget.

That would be the first step that I would take. That way you can listen to some different products as well.

I agree- it doesn't cost you anything to take a drive and see some of the stuff in action in a shops soundboard, to get ideas ,put together budgets and make a decision
altogether-Since you are in NJ, and dont mind a drive , I'd be more than happy to let you audition my car, as well as a few friens/fam members setups(from simple to extreme) so you can get a feel for the type of setup you'd like

from my experience i went the cheap way and bought crappy ****, now im ending up paying more money then i wanted to. so if your going to do it, do it right, dont be too cheap or else your going to regret it like me.

what would you consider to be a good entry level amp?

I was thinking about buying a used sub, maybe a sony xplod or RF off of ebay for cheap.

Please dont buy anything sony...please. What you should get really depends on what you are looking for. If you are willing to spend 130 on the sub, then my suggestion would be the Adire Shiva. Cheap but reliable. For an amp, find something thats relatively cheap, but can push out about 300watts @ 4 ohms. You can get refurbished JBL amps that push this power on sounddomain.com for about 160. Whatever you do, please dont waste your money on sony.
