Best Place to Ground.

I want to know whats the best Place to ground amplifiers in the Trunk? I have a 4 gauge power wire coming in, do i need a distrubution block 4gauge and 2 8 gauge ground wires in my trunk to properly ground it?

I am getting whine from the speakres , i am positive its a bad ground some where.

And whats a good place for radio deck ground, its grounded in the dash consule and i am sure that could also be a bad ground.

Thanks.

And the capacitor needs to be grounded, but should i ground the amplifier to the capacitor negative?

I hope i didnt confuse ya all

Usually when I chosing a ground spot in the trunk I make a my own by using a self-tapping screw w/ a washer. First I will prep the area with rubbing alcohol then use a grinder to get down to the metal. Then just use a powerscrew driver and your done.

The radio in the front is a different story. I never use the stock ground because it was designated for the stock radio and not a powerful after market one. The best choice is to run a ground from the stock radio straight to the ground on your battery. Some people don't feel comfortable drilling a hole through their firewall so another option would be under the shifter there are four screws that hold in your shifter I will sometimes use one of those, make sure you clean the area with rubbing alchohol before hand.

Hope this helps

The "stock ground" is non existant for the HU. Meaning there isnt wire present in the harness at all. The factory radio uses a floating ground through the chassis.

SKYRockerr...Directly below the radio theres a bracket with a 10mm bolt on each side. Either will work fine for a ground.

Pearl96, this is true that 95 and up do not have factory grounds on the wire harness, but for previous year models like a 90 I believe did offer factory grounds.

for whine, make sure your power and audio/rca cables do not run near each other. Main power should go directly to battery. For a better ground, just try to find bare metal, best if using an existing bolt. Or scratch off paint where ground touches.

since when do capacitors get grounded? I had power run to cap and cap to amp.

My Rockford Fosgate Digital Cap, has a positive in coming on a 8 gauge split from 4 gauge , then the negative is grounded to the car.

you're right, I was trying to picture in my mind the wiring I did 5 years ago. the car and booming system belong to my sister now. I ran i think 8 awg to a distributor block. then (2 wires out) 8 to the cap and 8 to the amp. I grounded both the amp and cap with 8awg to a bolt above wheel well. (scratched off the paint for a good ground.
