Installing an aftermarket system - suggestions?

Well, I finally got tired of the stock BOSE system so here is what I am thinking of doing. BTW, I have a '95 SE with the BOSE system.

I already have a pioneer deck and a JL15w3 (in 2 ohms) from my previous vehicle. I am going to use the headunit. Aside from that, I have 2 options:

1) Use the JL15w3 and get a mono amp + 2 pairs of separates + a 4channel amp

2) Ditch the JL15w3 and go for a JL12w3 + a pair of separates + a 4channel amp (bridging 2 channels for sub). Wire the stock rear speakers to the headunit for rear fill.

What would you guys do, any suggestions? Thanks

Mainly because I don't want to dedicate the entire trunk to just audio goodies. Second, I wanted to save the 15" for my next SUV. I wanted to stick to the very basic as I can with this one. Two pairs of separates for front and rear but then again, I can go with a coax for rear too.

I'd go with choice #1. You'll have better sq than just running your stock rears off the headunit. I would think that the 15 has enough bump to handle all the powered separates in the cab and even things out, but that would depend on the power you're sending to it. You could save some money by going with some non-separates in the rear, and powering them too...and you can always get a new sub (or two) when you throw the 15 in the SUV. Just my $.02.

I hear it's a real pain in the @$$ going to aftermarket from the bose system, as the speakers run thru an amp in the car. Might want to research into that a bit before you go nuts trying to wire it. Otherwise, the more bump, the better!

You'd want to totally ditch the Bose, amp and speakers. Run your own signal and control wires. The only hassle I would run into is probably getting good sounding speakers in the doors since the mounting depth aren't that much. I had to make my own spacers out of MDF to mount them in my previous, non-Bose '95 SE doors. Perhaps my Bose equipped SE has some provisions for spacing the speakers out a bit for fit. If anyone can tell me the maximum speaker depth allowance for a Bose equipped '95 SE, that would be great!

Jmal, your idea sounds the most sensible since I'm not looking into entering an IASCA competition. Plus clarity is my goal, not shaking things around me. Althougth good hitting bass is very much desirable.

I love JL Audio stuff, so I'll probably get the 300/4 and 500/1 amps. Any other suggestions?

Congrats on the 1000th post!!!

Currently, I don't have any amp to power the JL15w3. So I'm looking for one as we speak. I'm also looking for some good separates that would clear the front doors. BTW, my '95 Bose-equipped SE came with factory tweeters located in the A-pillars. Any recommendations?
