Anyway to play CD-R in Bose for '97 Maxima?

I burned some songs onto a CD-R but it won't play on the Bose of my '97 Maxima. Anyone know how to get the Bose to play CD-R? Thanks.

I played dozens of burned CDs when I had my 97 w/ Bose.

Troubleshooting tips:
1) Do other burned CD's work in your 97?
2) Does this CD work in other people's cars?
3) Does this CD work on your computer?
4) Is it a good brand CD?

learn how to burn better cd's, the stock system plays cdr's fine. close the cd, and make sure your cdplayer plays regular cds.

I'm gonna disagree with that. How do you learn to burn better CDs? I use NERO and burn it at the slowest speed, 1x, and they don't work. If I get some good brand CDs, TDK, verbatim, SONY, they work no matter what. Also keep in mind that over time CDr wear out the laser FASTER than normal CDs.

another option

I know some people say there's no difference between audio and data CD-R's, but my Bose will ONLY play audio [now] (used to play data cd'r but the bose is steadily declining.)

so give that a try. I burn at 52x and it plays all cdr audio.

Are you sure you are burning CD-DA audio CD files and not .mp3/.wma/data files?
I would guess that you are not burning the CD correctly (close the session on the disc). Check to see if you can play the CD in another standalone CD player (not your computer). Try different software. Unless the CDs that you are using are the really cheap ones (no label on the top side and you can barely tell the top from the bottom) then the quality of the CD should be alright. You may also try and use a black permanent marker to trace/darken the outer ring of the disc.

This I have never heard of before! Does it really help?

No, that is total B.S. Think about it...no data is written on that portion of the cd. Guitar World did an entire article on this exact topic. Supposedly, it is to keep the light from reflecting out, so you don't lose high end. Obviously this is impossible, as most cd's are recorded at 44.1khz, regardless of high/low frequencies. What you can try is be sure that there is no IDE tag on the files before you burn them, be sure you are burning as an audio cd, and you are using the correct compression. Nero takes the mp3's and literally converts them to wave as it is being burned. Also, don't burn anything above 192, you won't be able to tell the difference in audio quality above that...plus there are some cd players that can read that high of quality. I'm not 100% sure with the Bose, but I have run into these issues with other players

Yes it works. I "had" discs that were like that as did my friend who initially found out via an online article. Its not that all of the discs had the problem, but this worked for those that do have this problem. It has been a few years (back when CDs were more expensive then it is today and cheap quality ones are good alternatives) that's why it's rare to encounter this on today's media b/c even today's cheap CDs are pretty good. Don't remember the details, but it had something to do with the disc spreading the light and not reflecting it back and therefore the laser is not able to register the disc. Nonetheless, I believe the problem has to do with the software (or compression) used. DL NERO and try again.
