well all 99 and up maximas have the immobilizer so you will another key....but in a 5spd? that is kinda tricky....u can do it but remember that if you'll leave the car in gear...well it's not going to be pretty.....what some of my friends done on their cars(manuals) is they just cut the wires by the clutch pedal and grounded some of them(u have to trick your car into thinking that the clutch is pressed all the way in...in order to start the car)...i`'ve never done a remote start on a car with manual tranny so i don't know what exactly has to be done with the wires by the clutch....good luck

Unpluging the switch wont help. Theres two wires on that switch..black and green. The green needs to see ground while remote starting.
To safetly do remote start you need to tap the Neutral safetly wire, through the neutral safety switch of the remote start. This wire is located on the top row of the ECU right side, it is green with a white stripe.

If the shop that is doing it knows what theyre doing then they would safetly bypass that. Keep in mindits not just you that needs to worry about leaving it in neutral. A friend/girlfriend etc just reaches in, plays around, etc can easily leave it in gear.
Then again if DEI knew that the shop was doing it, theyd be out of business faster than they could blink.

A friend of mine has a remote start in a 5spd (not a max though) but a friend of his drove his car, left it in gear and then my friend tried to start his from inside his office. It started creeping and dragging it self up a driveway, with the parking brake on, and dragging itself under a chain hanging across the driveway, he has scratches up his hood and on the roof of the car. It looks horrible.
This little episode has kept me from getting it put in my car because I am in the habbit of leaving my car in gear too.
I remember reading on here a year of two ago about a switch dealie from radio shack, its called a magnetic position switch I think. You install it under your center council so that the circuit is completed only when the car is in nuetral. If it is in gear, the car wont start. I have never looked farther into this, but I thought Id throw out the idea.

Everyone quit being ghetto and do it the way Don says. Yes you have a chip in your key so you will need the DEI 555U or 556U, or an equivalent made by another company. I recently used one made by Peripheral that worked fine.
Here is the write up of the alarm install from Studman (Jeremy), a Viper 791xv in a 5th gen 5 spd using the neutral switch wire off the ecu. http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/viper791xv/
Hope this helps

Oh man, it only takes one time to have your car in a wall... Id be verrrry carefull. Im one to always leave my manual car in gear though, its just the thing i do... kinda natural now actually. Go for it, but if you forget that would suck.
