Stock Bose system *PROBLEM*

I drive a 2003 SE with the stock Bose system and six disc changer. Recently, I noticed that all of my music seems to be missing something. I just figured out what it is today. My front left speaker sounds really crappy.

I tuned to a local FM station and tried using Balance and Fade to test all of my speakers. Front right, rear right, and rear left are all fine, but front left sounds dirty, as if the radio station was full of static.

It gets even worse when I switch to CD. Once again, the other corners sound fine, but instead of just souding dirty, the front left gives me almost NO music. It only gives me very light static, and when I turn the volume WAY up, I hear faint music from the front left.

If the speaker is blown or somehow damaged, I'm not sure why it would give me better performance on FM than on CD. This leads me to believe that the problem is elsewhere in the system. I'm more into performance than car audio, so I don't know my way around a car audio system. Any input you guys have would be really appreciated.

Drivetrain warranty is 60k, but I'm pretty sure my bumper-to-bumper (which would include audio) is expired. Isn't the total warranty only 36k?

Unless you have less than 36k on the car, you are SOL.

Try smacking it to see if the static goes away. Mine did it for a while and after hitting it a couple times it has been doing OK.

So... either get it done under warranty... or smack it?

I heard that this is a common problem with the Bose system, at least on the 5th gen. Nobody has solved it?

I just had the same thing happen to me.. I've been told to get the headunit replaced under warranty. I think I may just take the entire Bose crap out of my car and put in all new aftermarket equipment.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I think sucks that the search feature is disabled on the org, but I went and sifted through some old posts until I found an answer that may even help those of us who are out of warranty. This left-side speaker failure is a known issue to Nissan, and there was a TSB issued for 5th gen Maximas with the Bose system.

Read the TSB here: http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../NTB03-017.htm

Sorry, not to take the thread off topic, but damn that Civic is BAD. You should take your sig and show it in the Sig Thread. I'd post the link for you, but I forget where it is exactly.
