How important to match speakers?

I just a 1995 Maxima (4th Gen). Coming from the home theater world I've been operating under the impression its pretty damn important to match front and rear speakers. Is this the case for cars? I was looking on crutchfield and found that the 95 can handle like 12 different kinds of front speakers but only 5 kind of rears and so in that case I figured I wanted to match the brand at least of my front and back speakers is this the case or is it less important? Is it more important to just match the power ratings?

it depends if you want the amp them. most ppl get the fronts with more wattage, and with the tweeter and coaxial, but its up to you, i would say more of the sound comes up front. but if i were you i would stick with the same brand.

When you say the "tweeter and coaxial" are you saying component speaker in the front with a coax speaker in the back or am i missreading?

You can use as many different speakers as you wish in your car. The coaxial speaker is going to be the driver and the tweeter is the 'little 1-incher'. When considering ANy peice of audio equipment, it is imperative that you have enough power, so make sure you're got enough juice to power the speakers!

I tried to save money in the beggining.... got some nice Pioneer Kevlar coaxs in the front and RF triax in the back. The sounds coming front the back kinda sucked compared to the
pioneers. I ended up spending twice the money in the end, bought 2 more pioneers and now the RF's are in my closet.
your ears never lie, and they will drive you crazy.....
