Dimming ext/int lights, fix???

Hello everyone,

I just recently installed a sub + JBL 300.1 amp in my 95' SE. I have an aftermarket h/u which powers the Infinity speakers in all 4 corners. Everytime the bass hits at higher volume levels, the exterior and interior lights in my car dims. I currently have a 575 amp battery which I know is inadequate from the start.

I'd like to know what you guys would do first, install a stiffening cap or get a stronger battery? I have also read many discussions about this in other forums and many have recommended against it. In short its the fact that the voltage drop-out of a cap is a lot quicker than it can recharge itself, making the battery take over when the voltage drops below ~12.8 volts. This sounds like something that can happen if you are running multiple high powered amps and subs. But I am currently only running one, and will be adding a 4ch. amp in the near future. The JBL amp's maximum current draw is around 30amps, add about another 30 amps for the future amp totalling 60amps (max).

Anyhow, what would you guys do first to resolve this dimming issue? Hopefully, I'll hear from the electrical gurus in here too. Thanks.

Personally i'd switch the battery, maybe to a bigger amp one. Optima maybe? (that's what i have) or any other deep cycle battery. This is my logic, if you buy a cap and it doesn't work....you'll still need a battery. Eventually you'll need to change your battery if you want to run another amp......might as well do it now. just my .02

Thanks...good idea. What amp rating do you think I should get? The optima reds are pretty pricey!

I heard about that, I just don't know where to get the kit and how much work is involved in it. With that upgrade, you replace the cable from battery to alt, battery to ground, and engine to ground.......am I right?
