Sub options

I know you maxima guys are audio addicts,so I thought I'd ask you guys for advice. I have a 97 240sx,as you know it has very little trunk space. I really want a box that isn't too big right now, I don't wanna build a custom enclosure for awhile. And don't have alot of watts to give either. I have a PPI pcX5800 amp. It's 50x4 and 200x1 @4ohm,and 100x4 and 400x1 @2ohm. I had another question about the power output. Can I run the 4 channels at 4ohm and the sub channel at 2ohm? Or do I have to run all at 2ohm or 4ohm? I bought a virtual technologies 8" slot ported box for $10 from the local audio store.Dimensions are 24x11x10.5 port is 9"x25" long. I could enlarge the mounting hole to accomidate a 10" sub also. So I guess I'm looking for either a 8 or 10" sub to handle somewhere between 200-400 watts. I'm also open to a 12" sub and box if it isn't too large. Anyone have any good idea's?? thanks

Are those internal or external dimensions? If they are external, how thick is the wood? You are missing one measurement on your slot port. Shouldn't it be 9x?x25?

Budget? Elemental Designs just released a new 8" for around $50. It looks great when modeling it. There are many other options depending on how much you want to spend.

a 240 is a hatchback so a bazooka tube will sound good, just get one of those empty audiobahn bazooka bass tubes and throw a sub in there

Sorry about the dimensions. Those are on the outside. The wood is 5/8th" and the port is 25x9x1.75". Price isn't all that important, but I don't want to spend $350 on a jl 8w7. Looking to spend between $100-200. Also 2da max, my 240 is a coupe with a trunk.

Based on the T/S specs, the 9Kv.2 looks really good. The $50 price tag looks even better.

Arc audio car series would be a nice touch. The amps are small and the subs don't require a lot of cubic volume. And not relatively expensive to boot.

I have em, so it's no BS.

that ED sub looks pretty beefy for an 8" sub. Great price too. Do you think I would be better off with a higher end 8" or a mid range 10" for the money and watts to give? thanks for all the input guys

If you still budgeting up to $200, you don't have to settle for midrange anything. You just need to look beyond the "name brands". Here are some examples:

Soundsplinter RL-i 10" ~$150
Resonant Engineering RE series 8" $50, 10" $60 or SE 10" $150.
Peerless XLS $140
Dayton Titanic MKII $140
Dayton Titanic MKIII $140
ED 11Kv.2 $115

Everything above will work just fine with the 200-400 watts you have available. Some have different voice coils arrangements others are just single 4 ohm VC's.
