i went to the audio store and they told me that the amp i have is great and should last for years. neone know what the problem is???

How did you know if the sub is ok? Subs shouldn't blow that easily, how did you blow an old sub? Is the bass still up? Maybe first thing is turn down the bass **** and make sure the gain on the amp isn't all the way up.
i figured out the problem, dont be mad guys but the dam ground wire was loose and was touching the amp, so basically the amp was grounded on the amp
so the amp was giving some kind of feed back to the sub. now i got that fixed. but my ground screw on the amp is somewhat stripped and doesnt not want to come out. and now dam amp power light is really dim. i dont know if its the cap or what but its not playing at all

Yikes!!!! Loose connection seems minor but can be damaging to your amp if the wrong wire touches metal. While your at it, it's not a bad idea to check all connections and make sure nothing else is loose. BTW, if the ground wire was loose (depending on how loose it is), your amp will either turn on or not! Loose ground can cause your amp to run hotter too! Hopefully, the fact that the amp was sporadically turning off and on when the ground touches metal, didn't do any harm to it. Just a suggestion based on experience, I used to mount my amp on the sub box. The problem i ran into was that some of the connections become loose, perhaps because of vibration from the box. This might raise a debate based on other opinions. Anyhow, I never have such problems no more since mounting the amp on either the trunk's floor or behind the rear seat. Regarding your amp's ground screw, I'm sure you can go to your local audio shop and get a screw from them. Good luck!

thanks guys but the screw is the least of my problems now. the dam amp turns on whenever it wants too, and when it does the power light is reaaal dim. and no music at all. rcas and speaker wire is good. i dont know it doesnt go into protect, like something else is wrong with it but i dont know

Damn, I know how frustrating this is!!! Like phantom problems and stuff. If this was happening to me, I'd pull the amp out. Disconnect all wires. Do a simple test on the amp by using the power wire (that supplies +12v to the amp) which is connected to the battery (fused side). Connect the +12v and remote connections of the amps together and connect that to the power wire at the battery. Don't forget to ground the amp! If the amp lights up (strong red light), then your amp is fine. Perhaps something is up with the stiffening caps. If your amp tests fine, then reconnect the amps back in the trunk and bypass the stiffening caps. See if your amp works fine.

hmm i took it out but i didnt test it. i will probably take it out and just wire it right to the battery like you said. the thing is the power b+ wire that is on the cap is connected right on top of the power wire to the amp, and the connection is good. what would happen if the cap isnt grounded good though? i mean hmmm wait i think my cap is grounded good because i checked it. but what would happen any way if the cap isnt grounded good?Originally Posted by 2DaMax

If the ground is loose on the cap, the amp should still work. But the cap wouldn't be doing its job.

dam man. 2damax i did what you said, i did direct 12volts to the amp, but it only turns on when i power the remote wire. so basically the remote wire has to be on the amp, and i have to give 12volts to the remote wire itself also. and that doesnt even help the power light flickers like crazy, and the sub comes on and off like in 2 seconds. i tried powering the remote slot with 12volts aslo but does not come on. it only comes on when the remote from the hu is in, and when i give the remote wire slot another 12volts from the battery. is my amp gone guys?

You have to supply 12v power to the remote wire as well. That's what I said earlier to connect both the +12v(red) and remote(blue or whatever color the amp has for it) wires together, then connect them to the +12v side of the battery or whatever the wire you are using to supply the amp with +12v which is on the + terminal of the battery.
Sounds like your amp is toast man! Take the amp itself to the shop where you got it from and have it tested. What sucks about this is if you installed the amp yourself, warranty is no good. That loose / intermittent ground possibly killed that amp's power supply. Remember, loose connection makes the amp run hot, bad for the amp and definitely bad for its power supply.
BTW, PM Don (Pearl96Max). He might be able to suggest things that I might have overlooked. Hope you can still save this amp.
One more thing..... check the fuses on the amp side. If you have spare fuses, replace them only with equal amperage. The fuse(s) might have been affected by all this.
