Is my RMS too high?

Ok I just got some components and I finally found an amp to power both sets. THe problem is that their Max RMS is 75 watts and their total power handling is 150 watts per pair. I found a great deal on the Soundstorm VANQUISH V320.2 and it's max RMS is 140 x 2 watts. Will I kill my components if I use this high RMS or does the speaker limit it's RMS handling.

You will damage a speaker quicker with distortion than you will with power.

You will not be running the amps "max" output unless you blare the music. You should concentrate on getting the cleanest amp you can afford vs worrying about too much power IMO.

How long would it take to damage a speaker with the amount of distortion caused by most modern-day amplifiers, even when clipping? A lot longer than dumping more voltage into a speaker than it's designed to handle.

Overpowering a speaker will fry it long before distortion will.

For starters, I doubt the amp will put out as much power as advertised. Regardless, you should let your ears tell you when to turn down the volume. If your speakers distort or pop, then back off on the volume. Note - Distortion is not indicitive of too MUCH power.

Thanks for the input. I think that I'm gonna pass on that amp and possibly buy something from the Power Acoustic or Kicker series.
