Sealed or Ported?

I`m buying an Alpine Amp MRD-M301 that puts out 350Watts cont. at 2 ohms and a JL-Audio 10W3v2 dual 4ohm voice coil sub. I will be putting this in the trunk of my 99 Maxima with leather, and tying it into my stock bose system. I listen mostly to hard rock/heavy metal, and some other stuff like Pink Floyd, etc. Should I go with a vented box or sealed? Also what is that converter I need to get a signal from one of the rear speakers for the amp?

hmm jl. if i were you i would get a sealed box. especially with a JL you would getter better sound quality[sp] it also depends on the specs of the box. if you want a little more bass go with the vented. what you neeed is a high low adapter for the rear speakers

Who makes this Hi-Lo adapter? I have heard of ones made by PAC (I think) that have a wire to use as the turn on lead for the amp to. Where can I get the adapter?

Sealed = SPL
Ported = SQ

Sealed would be better for your music, but it wont be as loud. Porting the box doubles your output. It can get boomy in a ported box though, but if you use your EQ effectively, it will double the output of your desired frequencies and will not get boomy.

Oh and Ported will yeild better SQ than sealed if used properly.

I think he was thinking about how you can give a sub in a sealed box more power because it will have more control over the moving mass sealed, and can stay linear at higher volumes.

but yeah.

Actually it's more like this guys.

Sealed-SQ

Ported/vented-SQ/SPL

Bandpass-SPL

I even have had a pure SQ put out some nice SPL levels too. My last competition I pushed 147.6 with 2 sealed boxes, with RF punch 12"s, and a 500 watt memphis. Wired per channel instead of bridged. Took 3rd overall in the 100-500 watt class.

Yes, ported usually covers everything people want. I just liked the sealed because of the great response to the changing frequencies.
